Interesting.
At 4:33 PM today, I tried to delete a thread I started today called:
New Type of Pennysaver - Fugitive Finder .
There are no replies yet, but there was no "Manage Message" button, either. Mybe someting changed. Mybe it would let you delete it if no one read it yet (my thread was already read 25 times, but with no replies.)

The way that it used to be (as of a few weeks ago), an original poster could delete the original message until the message had been replied to.

I once deleted a first post in a thread when I realized it was in the wrong category ... but that was before there was a response.

I just addressed this issue in the thread referred to. Unless the condition is intermittant, I found that you can delete a post to an existing thread, but the author of the thread cannot delete the first post that started the thread.

I've noticed the same thing ... it seem to come and go.

I had to resort to leaving a message blank if I had reason to delete it.

I posted a test message in the Misc. forum to see what the new software would do with a full-resolution photo. When I tried to delete it, there was no "Manage Message/Delete" option. No one had replied yet. Has the option to delete a message been deleted?
