Fine looking burger Joe. Could not have been much of a challenge for you though. What did you have for dessert?

Ever since this thread started, I have wanted to get back to WHFD. So here I was travlin on 81 North and thinking to myself, "Should I go right back to the office, log on at roadfood.com and eat the Little Fellers lunch again, or do I take the 13 mile detour to WHFD". Well, cooler heads prevailed and I took the detour.

I am sure seafarer john is reaching for his rolaids and Greymo is appalled at the photo quality, but this is a shot of my burger.

Juicy and delicous. Base price is $4.15 including American Cheese. This upgraded model includes lettuce, raw onions and tomatoes, it goes for $4.65. No sides, this baby is a meal all by itself.

Ha, yeah, everyone I take there tries to order all sorts of other stuff, and I always tell them "Trust me, just get the burger, we can get one order of fries for the table"

And it is right off of 80, though its on the other side of the river, right near the turnpike.

I met another contractor at the White Haven Diner about 20 years ago. We sat at the counter and I told the waitress "just bring me two burgers and a fry". She looked at me and said "where do you think you are, McDonalds". She told me to start off with one burger, and just let her know if I wanted the second one. I couldn't believe my eyes when she put that manhole cover in front of me. I remember it being a very good, juicy burger.

Hey Joe have you kept track of how many waitresses have had to keep you in line? I bet I can't count that high!

Purcell - nice pictures.

BB - the Stern's did note the cheeseburgers with "the college degree" in either an RF or EYWAUSA book. They are quite good.

The burger was just ranked # 1 by the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader in their Top Five Burgers---and that must mean something for a place that is (half an hour) out of the way from downtown Wilkes-Barre and has very limited hours.

I have been to Family Diner in White Haven many times, but have always thought of it as a breakfast place. But I will try that burger the next time I am though the area.

Most people I know can finish it, or at least get close... the trick is to not order fries (which are ok, but nothing special) or any other sides. Its rather well proportioned once you eat the edges of the burger, a good ratio of meat to bun.

Fourteen ounces? That's a pretty large burger, but it does look good in the picture. Often the really large burgers don't look so good. How much of a challenge is it to eat something this size?

I gotta say, I am surprised I was unable to find a thread on this place...

It also came first in a newspaper article in the area today for the best burger:

They are 14 oz burgers, cooked fresh to order... and are only $3.75 each! They are not all that thick really, the locals call them a "hubcap" burger. The burger sticks way out from under the bun, and you usually have to eat off the edges with a knife and fork before picking it up. The weird part is that you have to pay for EVERYTHING on them... cheese= 50 cents, lettuce= 5 cents, tomato= 10 cents, ect. My favorite is a cheeseburger with bacon (Its $1 extra, and you get about 10-12 strips of bacon!). Also have good fried onions to top the burger with if you want.
