Thank you, "niece" Wabbit. I've spent such a sizable hunk of my life in Mount Airy ( probably 75 or 80 trips down there over the course of my 57 years ) that I feel like it's my second home. Come to think of it, I guess it is. I've already got three trips to Mount Airy scheduled for 2010; if there weren't so many things tying me to the Chicago area, I'd probably pack up and relocate there.

Jim, you're confusing "Andy's world" geography with our own geography ( two parallel Earths perhaps? ) "Mayberry" is a fictional version of Mount Airy, specifically the way the town looked during the Depression years, when Andy was a kid. Many of the streets, businesses and surrounding towns mentioned on the show can ( or could ) be found in Mount Airy; for example Snappy Lunch, the Bluebird Diner, Earlie Gilley's Garage, Haymore St., Rockford St., Spring St., and the nearby towns of Bannertown, Fancy Gap, Toast and Pilot Mountain ( Mount Pilot on the show. ). There actually is a Siler City NC; it's roughly seventy miles southeast of Mount Airy. It's the town where Frances "Aunt Bee" Bavier spent the last years of her life. Betty "Thelma Lou" Lynn moved to Mount Airy three or four years ago, and is happily spending her "golden years" there.

Off topic, but not really ... Food & Mayberry - just not Snappy's Lunch.

I'm watching The AG Show and Aunt Bea is offered a cooking show on Channel 12 out of Siler City. Aunt Bea is told that Siler City is only a 25 minute drive from Mayberry. I always thought Mayberry was close to Mt. Airy.

Is my Tarheel geography goofed up? Help please.

Ahh Bob, I hated to miss ya... But we have a date for BBQ at Stamey's...Hope Dennis in Cary and his Wife can join us. I really enjoyed meeting u at Keaton's,,,and I look forward to this!! How often does a woman get to enjoy the good company of a nice fellow like you,,,Well I mean except when I am with Mr.Wabbit.. He is going if he is not away at work. No problem, Dennis. I'm sorry that we weren't able to get together in Mount Airy last weekend, but hopefully you and Wendy can join Traci ( Wabbit ) and me at Stamey's in Greensboro in mid-February. It will most likely be on a Monday evening.

Wabbit my sweet, I'm so sorry about what happened to your car, and I hope that you're able to track down the thoughtless jerk responsible. I was really looking forward to breaking bread ( actually breaking pork chop ) with you at Snappy Lunch, but unfortunately these things happen sometimes. As I told you the other night, I'll be passing through your part of NC on my way home from the Glee Club gathering in February, and we'll have another chance to get together for a meal ( your suggestion of Stamey's in Greensboro is a good one. ) Good luck with the car situation, and tell Mr. Wabbit that I said "howdy".

On Sat Sep 26th NoCarolina Bob and I will be at Snappy's for the famous "Pork Chop Sandwich" We welcome one and all. Plese join us at 11:am in front of Snappy's. We had a great time in the spring at Keaton's Chicken,, and will have another one here. As Bob is making another one of his scenic area and grapic food pic's ... You don't want to miss it.. And he is a great fellow to enjoy a meal with. Hope to see you there. He wil be driving starting Sep 22 as I just sp/with him ..PM me with any questions.
