yes the loss of this place is still felt, every time I am in the neighborhood I have to remind myself it isn't there.

WJ, I remember you mentioning this restaurant before, but I can't recall anything else about the place. Please remind us what we will be missing. Sorry for your disappointment.

You're right, I was so disappointed I forgot to mention their specialties.

Just good ol' homestyle southern cooking.
I always enjoyed their great fried chicken, the local (and apparently hard to find speciality) spoonbread and some of the best banana pudding I've ever had. I first found the place in 1998 and it was the first time I ever had spoon bread. I last visited in 2005, which was pre "digitial photos" for me. I wish I can find a place that's remotely as good upon my next visit to Richmond ( whenever that will be ,and they'll have to have spoonbread of course)

I was pondering a late in the year weekend visit to Richmond VA with a free flight (just pondering and it probably won't happen anyway) and accidentally discovered my favorite Standby is no more. Apparently both the husband and wife owner passed away within months of each other and their son decided not to carry on. Although the news of their passing is sad, Freckle's will surely be missed.
