I am a fan of trailers in general but really do enjoy those of old movies, particulary B-movies.
I do hope that whoever does remake the Curse of the Demon, and I'm sure someone will eventually, is able to capture the same atmosphere of it and give me that same creeped out feeling!

Re:Horror (doggydaddy)

nocarolina

Vince, you probably already knew this, but Night of the Demon is the same film as Curse of the Demon, which I mentioned earlier in this thread. This British movie, which played theaters in the UK in 1957 under its original Night of... title, was released in this country by Columbia in 1958 with the altered title and, unfortunately, minus thirteen of its ninety-five minutes of running time. Short version or long, it's a really great film; one of the true classics of the 1950s ( scary as hell, too. )

Hi Bob,

That is so funny. There have been some good suggestions and I know that with us, giant critters rule, but the first movie that came to my head was Curse of the Demon. That is a excellent film that not too many people know about, but if they read Famous Monsters, they'll recognize the demon. I always have felt that this would be a great film for a...update. I bet you'll disagree.

One film that I know I need to see is The Hidden. I have heard great things about it. And I too, agree with The Host.
The best way to celebrate Halloween is to show trailers to B-movies.

mark

mark
Re:Horror (Vince Macek)

nocarolina

Vince, you probably already knew this, but Night of the Demon is the same film as Curse of the Demon, which I mentioned earlier in this thread. It's a testament to the filmmaking that I always jump at unscary things like kids in masks jumping from behind a tree, or a door opening in a hotel corridor, or a guy walking into a tree limb.
Remakes always make me leery, but I heard Kenneth Branagh was thinking about doing this one, and I would like to see him do so.

Re:Horror (surrycounty)

Vince, you probably already knew this, but Night of the Demon is the same film as Curse of the Demon, which I mentioned earlier in this thread. Great movie, genuinely frightening and it's nice to Raimi back on top after the misfire that was Spider-Man 3.

Caught the new movie Paranormal Activity Friday. Really liked it. It reminded me a lot of Blair Witch Project, thought I think Paranormal Activity will hold up a lot better on repeated viewings than Blair Witch did. It also reminded me of the classic ghost story The Innocents. The 2 movies have the same atmosphere on unrelenting tension.

Well, that's it then, I'm going to have to catch Drag Me To Hell. I'd heard it was based on M.R. James' 'Casting the Runes', which was the source for Jacques Tourneur's sublime Night Of The Demon. And I did enjoy the Evil Dead series.

Re:Horror (improviser)

Watched Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell Saturday. Some stories work better than others, but then at the end it goes completely off-the-tracks crazy and on a pretty disturbing note.

Some enterprising soul somewhere should run William Castle's old fright films in theaters with the 'gimmick' setups installed (Emergo!
