You might also consider doing fish tacos...

Fish tacos??? Not that sounds really yuk! We sell hot dogs, smoked brats and smoked bbq brisket. We don't need any more than that. We're supposed to be semi-retired!!!
Re:TX Cart Regulations (franksrocks)

lornaschinske

We were looking for the baseline. We are in Corpus for the winter. Will be staying on Flour Bluff. Currently in Fulton. We have an appointment for Corpus Christi HD to just look at cart on Tuesday in order to tell us what we need to do to it to pass.

Apparently we will need triple bowl sinks and screened walls on our hot dog cart. At least we don't seem to need a 10K bond like cities of Fulton and Portland require (only one place we found to set up in Portland).

The screens really crack me up. Most big Texas cities require plexiglass, but the coastal towns usually ask for screens.

I also had to get a triple bowl sink for utensils and a two bowl for hand washing....but that is only on my big cart and because my commissary is in another county.

Good luck to you. Let me know if I can help in any way. You might also consider doing fish tacos. Those usually sell pretty well in that area.
Re:TX Cart Regulations (lornaschinske)

We were looking for the baseline. We are in Corpus for the winter. Will be staying on Flour Bluff. Currently in Fulton. We have an appointment for Corpus Christi HD to just look at cart on Tuesday in order to tell us what we need to do to it to pass.

Apparently we will need triple bowl sinks and screened walls on our hot dog cart. At least we don't seem to need a 10K bond like cities of Fulton and Portland require (only one place we found to set up in Portland).
Re:TX Cart Regulations (franksrocks)

The Texas Administrative Code is worthless. It is a baseline for the county and/or city Heath Departments. If the local HD wants to change something, they do it and you have to follow their rules. I would contact the county and setup a meeting....don't rely on the State's website for anything. Here is their link: http://www.cctexas.com/?f...main.view&page=335

If you are going to be in Corpus, I would suggest trying to see if you can setup somewhere near Bob Hall Peer. That place is the busiest spot during the Spring and Summer. Even if you were close to it, you would probably make money. You could also try getting a spot in the State Park, but not sure who you would need to work with on that one.

We normally go to Corpus several times a year, because that is about the only place you can surf in this state. Also, there is a surf shop that has a shark's head for an entrance. That place is usually packed during surfing season. Somewhere near there would also probably work pretty well, but only during Spring and Summer.

I have some other places that might work. PM me if you are still looking for a location.
Re:TX Cart Regulations (waydeg)

PM me if you have questions about Texas. I've just gone through the process w/ my local HD. Great guy - but then, I've been living in what used be a small town for the past 20 years - maybe I'm grandfathered in!

Some local HD may qualify you as a caterer instead of a mobile food vendor. BIG difference in requirements.

WG
Re:TX Cart Regulations (lornaschinske)

I found it, I found it!!!!

Texas Administrative Code
SUBCHAPTER K TEXAS FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS

RULE §229.169 Mobile Food Establishments

TX Cart Regulations (lornaschinske)

Where can I find the standard regulations for the actual cart. I mean things like # sinks, materials used in construction etc? I have been cruising thru the TX state web site and have to say it's user unfriendly... at least to me.
