It seems to be a regional thing. Around here, just about every supermarket and convenience store sells blueberry pies, both snack size and full-size.

That does make sense. Blueberries are a northern plant so more people would be familiar with them and there would be a greater demand than in GA where I am. I remember we got them at the convenience store down the road in NC.

Brands are Table Talk, Frisbe's (made by Table Talk, though I think the box says Olds Baking Co. on it), Entenmann's (a few weeks out of the year), and Tastykake.

At Tastykake's website they sell them in their "Lemon, Peach & Blueberry Pie Collection". Three of each for $20! That's not counting shipping. Why make such a "collection" to begin with???

You can almost always buy a blueberry pie in the faux fresh bakery departments of the supermarkes - comes in frozen from firms like Rich Products Corp. and then baked off in the store.
Actually, if you buy a can of Comstock or Thank You blueberry pie filling and some frozen pie crusts, you get a pretty decent blueberry pie.

That sounds like the most practical and economical idea, even though I've never bought a pie shell and don't know anything about them. I did buy a can of blueberry pie stuff and poured it over somerthing once though and that turned out great. I just can't remember what I poured it on.

Hey stricken_detective,

In my own quest for blueberry pies I noticed that you had enjoyed some similar frustrations. I went to every sort of convenience store around, and no blueberry pies. Very few fruit pies of any kind, and most places had none at all. Kroger and Publix don't sell them either. Some WalMarts seem to have some tabletalk blueberry pies available some of the time, selling them under the name 'Old Fashion' or something similar. I've seen several "berry" options, and more blackberry than blueberry. At cutipie.com there is a berry that looks like blueberry, but... So have you had any good luck with this? It seems like it should be easy for find a great selection of blueberry snack pies, but noooooooo....

wanderingjew, I started (and continue) posting current Food Recalls because I thought it was a vital and relevant topic for both Restaurant Professionals and Roadfood members who cook and eat to have a ready reference on here for what food products they currently needed to be careful of or avoid completely in order that they, their customers, their families and their friends didn't get sick (and even die). I felt that in this small way I could make a constant positive contribution to this website, instead of just being the recipient of all the varied information posted here.

It is very possible that this effort was and is a waste of my time, and that Food Recalls are not at all relevant to Roadfood as you mentioned above. Since there have been some "thank you" postings on the Food Recalls thread (which you can read if you so desire), I have felt that my effort was appreciated, at least by some Roadfood members. However, if this is not correct, I will be more than happy to delete the entire Food Recall topic and not worry any more about doing my share of contributions.

I am just happy that you, as well as some other Roadfood members, are wealthy enough to be able to constantly travel from coast to coast even in current economic times, so you can post trip reports on hundreds of Roadfood locations. Even in my most active travel days (when I had, at most, five weeks paid vacation), I always had to try to get the "biggest bang for my buck", camping instead of staying in hotels, driving instead of flying and renting a car, and searching out the best food deals wherever I was. Over a period of about 40 years, I visited all 50 U.S. states, all provinces of Canada, almost all Mexican states, most of Belize and a small part of Guatemala. And I enjoyed every minute of it. I wish you the best in all your travels.

I never said you weren't providing a constant positive contribution because you are, and think that the miscellaneous food forum is fine for your thread. I'm certain that the restaurant professionals would be notified by their suppliers if there were any food recalls, however as far as consumers are concerned, I can understand your thread being a "front page topic" if the website was called "supermarket food" or "grocery store food" another reason why I think the miscellaneous food forum is fine where it is.

As far as ME being wealthy, I can assure you I'm far from it. If my "6 figure a year friends" consider themselves to be "middle class" then that makes me "dirt poor"
