I've eaten here for years. They started in a small humble place a few blocks south (which became Horace and Rita's West Indies restaurant) and when the former Mahalia Jackson's Fried Chicken Restaurant became available they jumped on it. This was the place for soul food in Milwaukee. Politician, athletes and hustlers all could be found at this charming always friendly eatery. Mr Perkins Sr. stopped by our table on my last visit which wasn't odd as he really never retired but the Journal story mentioned that was probably due to his sons illness. Mr Perkins Jr was a stout fella which contrasted with the thin railedness of his pop. The two of them shared a love for people which was evident on every visit. R.I.P sir.

RIP Mr. Perkins (X1)

Mr. Willie Perkins, of the much-beloved Mr. Perkins' Family Restaurant, died of brain cancer.

Here are some links, including the Roadfood write-up:

http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Reviews/377/mr-perkins-family-restaurant

http://bit.ly/5YZ3Cd My Examiner.com Review

http://ow.ly/T9GM The Journal-Sentinal news story
