I call BS on the premise of the original posting. There is nobody and his buddies who can afford the cost and time off work that this guy describes.

As far as the series goes, besides the Cheesesteaks and Buffalo Wings that the original poster brought up, the show has already hit Carolina Bob's Italian beef joints and the Kansas chicken places that bb brought up. The Kansas places are beyond obscure. Travel Channel owes this board and/or the Stern's a shout out for our help.

I tried watching the Buffalo Wings show, then the Cheesesteak version. What a waste of time. Each could have been totally covered in less than 5 minutes of air-time, including complete histories of the source institution and Bio's of everyone who has ever worked there.

I won't be giving them a third try.

After rereading this thread, it does seem like it would way too much of a coincidence for it not to be from the new Food Wars tv show. The two sets of places they mention in the original post (Pats/Geno's and Anchor Bar/Duff's), we know for sure will be covered in the show. And several other suggestions of ours have either already been used or are definitely still to come.

I do think it is a really good idea for a show, though and I have enjoyed what I have seen.

I hate to say, but the well intentioned Roadfood community has been duped by the producers of Food Wars. First it was Page Productions getting seed ideas for Diners, DriveIns, and Dives, but at least they were up front about it. Now these weasels. Their show is lifted right out of this thread.

To answer Wandering, we're looking for food rivalries. Sorry If I didn't communicate that properly.

We're hitting specific locations for specific dishes and deciding for ourselves who does it best. It's just an added bonus if the restaurant owners and fans take their food very seriously!

I'd love to hear your suggestions too.

@buffetbuster - The green chili burger sounds amazing, we'll definitely check those out!

@Davydd - Yeah the Juicy Lucy totally hooked us, that's been a definite contender.

In Minneapolis/St. Paul (sorry cold climate) there is Juicy Lucy burger restaurant rivalries between Matt's Bar and the 5-8 Club in Minneapolis with The Nook in St. Paul thrown in the mix. Their rivalries have been written up numerous times in the local media and also numerous food shows on cable TV.

How about shrimp and grits in Charleston SC? I know both 82 Queen and Magnolia's are supposed to be the big dogs, but that's a little upscale maybe for what you're thinking of doing. Also, you can eat shrimp and grits for a whole week in Charleston and not go to the same place twice.

Is the original poster looking for restaurant rivalries or food rivalries?
If it's food rivalries I've got a bunch of them.
I've never been to Magnolia's but 82 Queen is pure unadulterated straight up ROADFOOD at
least in the "pre-website" sense

In the tiny town of San Antonio, NM, is two marvelous green chile cheeseburger places, practically across the street from each other, called The Owl and The Buckhorn Tavern, both of which are reviewed here on Roadfood.

Not exactly a rivalry, however the touristas do go to Aunt Carrie's
and Iggy's Doughboy's which sit across from eachother in Narragansett RI . Both are only open during the summer.

What an awesome idea, awesome sounding road trip i agree about the Pepe's Modern Sally stops to bad it reguires huge stomach at 3 great places. Don't forget the McD and BK bathroom breaks.

Just thought of another one: On Chicken Dinner Road in Pittsburg, Kansas, rivalry chicken restaurants, Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's are across the street from each other.
