These promotions SUCK!

The servers are going to be stressed beyond comprehension. The plates will not be representative of the meal choice. The "ambience" will be homeless shelter dining room. Why bother?

On the other hand, Denny's has a new coffee service that is terrific.

While I think its a pretty decent promotion for the company and some patrons, I cant help but to envision it as being as RedJim64 explained.

Although I have no interest in going, I think that a free four dollar breakfast is nice. You won't find many places that ever do anything like that.

There is a popular local diner that offers free breakfast twice a week - Monday and Wednesday, I believe - which they bill as "Customer Appreciate Days." I usually go there for lunch, as I am occupied with work on Monday and Wednesday mornings, but the only "requirement" is that you take care of the server.

The next time I have a free morning on a Monday or Wednesday, I will try to give this place a shot.

Denny's will get a huge response from their target audience, which is what it's all about.

My boyfriend is a late nite pancake junkie...so we go to Denny's alot since its near his house (we try lots of other non-chain stuff in the daytime).. and yeah..if you order boring predictable food..that's what you'll get.. but they actually have some good stuff on the menu if you're willing to try ...for instance..they have a chicken, pecan, and cranberry salad right now that's very good. And their chicken noodle soup is warm and comforting. Some of their "late nite" creations by semi-celebs have been yummy too.. like the "Hoobaburrito".. a wrap with spicy chicken strips, onion straws, jack cheese and bbq sauce.. like I said..there are lots of things on the menu OTHER than the boring stuff..ya just gotta know where to look!

wow, a bunch of people slamming Denny's...that was unexpected.

I have only been to Denny's 1 and I have lived in a city with several for my entire life. I can't remember it being particularly good or bad but there are already several good (independent) places in Dayton that are pretty fantastic in my opinion that going to a chain with a mediocre food experience just isn't worth it in general let alone for a deal that isn't that fantastic in my opinion.

of course there are many mom and pop places that are better. that's the whole point of this site. I don't know if there are any Denny's in DC - and we, too, have an array of independent shops that are great for breakfast. That's really not the point.

I don't know a better deal than a free breakfast. Maybe you want them to pay you for your presence.

Mediocrity is a compliment for the quality of what they serve.

I'm not even certain why this isn't in the fast food/chain forum?

I've been to Denny's maybe 2 times in the last 20 years. One Denny's was in my hometown - your typical Denny's. The other was a 50s diner style Dennys that happened to be close to my hotel, and open, and the only choice in an area of which I wasn't familiar. Both were significantly better than my various experiences at Waffle House.

Would I wait in line for Denny's? I dunno, if I could get a group together and make an event out of it. I don't typically like to wait in line for food - especially now that we have a kid who isn't at all patient at his tender age of 18 months.

Would I snub my nose at a free Grandslam? no. Most of the meal, I expect, will be fine. And with large crowds, the coffee won't be burnt.

But, in all honesty, a Tuesday morning? I won't be there, because I work.

I'll admit going to Denny's on occasion a few times a year. It's not my favorite place, but it's serviceable when you are tight on time and nothing else is available just off the interstate. Sometimes, you just need two eggs, toast, and coffee...

I've almost never been to Denny's sober, or during daylight. One time we had to share a fork because the cops got called & the waitstaff was too busy watching the drama unfold.

you can already buy a Grand Slam breakfast for just $3.99, I don't think it's worth standing in line for.
