McRae. That truly is the southern part of heaven.
Wish they had better bbq though!

I hear you, Captain! Lees McRae is a VERY fine institution. I wish I had discovered it earlier in life because I would have loved to have taught there for a year or two (beats the heck out of the College of the Bahamas where I spent an internship).

And, you're correct. The area has to be a little bit of heaven on Earth!

Although we are North Carolina fans (we own a condo near Banner Elk where we hang out a lot -- photos on my website for anyone interested ), we have actually made the drive (right at 200 miles) to eat at Scott's Bar-B-Que --- that's how good we think it is! And the folks who operate it are wonderful.

Of course, the drive is very scenic and it also affords me the opportunity to pick up a supply of SC "bald peanuts" along the way (that's boiled peanuts to the non-Southern folks) --- LOL!
