Your best bet, the pros say, is to turn off the flash and use manual camera settings and a tripod."
.
.
.
"Stay seated. Standing up, kneeling on a banquette, carrying your food to a more picturesque spot — all can be disruptive to your companions."

And setting up a tripod wouldn't be?

These ideas seem to be a bit at odds with each other.

Brad

Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (Nancypalooza)

Our local paper, along with some etiquette tips: http://www.thestate.com/2010/06/16/1333312/capturing-the-foodie-moment.html

Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (buffetbuster)

 JRPfeff-
And what beautiful photos they are!

Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (JRPfeff)

I was able to get 2 of my photos posted at the NYT site before they stopped adding them. Here and here.
Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (Vince Macek)

I haven't bought a new camera in about three years, but a friend who has tells me there's a "food" setting on his...
Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (i95)

On a related note...

http://tweetwhatyoueat.com/

Re:Photographing Food (ScreamingChicken)

Michael, do you remember the equipment and film you used for that photo?

Brad

Re:Photographing Food (Bruce Bilmes and Susan Boyle)

Michael Stern
here is a picture I took inside the very first real Texas barbecue we came across

Michael, that was always one of my favorite Roadfood photos - I think it was in A Taste of America, in black and white, if I'm not mistaken.

Re:Photographing Food (1bbqboy)

Nowadays the table would probably be detained under the Patriot Act.

Re:Photographing Food (Michael Stern)

When Jane and I started doing Roadfood, I got kicked out of restaurants more than a few times because the owner caught me taking pictures. That meant that either I was planning to open a competing restaurant or I was some sort of muckraking reporter taking a picture of a cockroach I'd found. The idea of reporting on a cheeseburger or bbq or fried chicken was unheard of.

Speaking of Roadfood's early days, here is a picture I took inside the very first real Texas barbecue we came across, in the back room of a market in the town of Waelder, some time in the early 1970s. I like the cardboard-box decor! If you look closely you can see a knife chained to the table for cutting the sausage links -- a smokehouse custom we haven't seen in a long time.

Photographing Food (will_work_4_bbq)

Obviously these folks have never met BuffetBuster.....

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/07/dining/07camera.html?ref=dining

NY Times - First Camera, Then Fork (JRPfeff)

Sorry if this is redundant, I missed the original thread. Thanks Tony Bad.

Nothing in the Time's gallery that is any better than what is posted every day at Roadfood.

You can have your moment of virtual fame, too. Post your favorite food pics here.

This is the Times' gallery of meal photo submissions.

Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (buffetbuster)

It is very obvious that restaurants are now much more used to customers taking photos of their food. If I get asked about it nowadays, it is usually from another patron and even that is happening less frequently.

It is reassuring to know, that CarolinaBob and TravelinMan will still get yelled at occasionally.

Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (billyboy)

"What's the deal" with these people called "Roadfooders" taking pictures of their food everywhere they go? Can't touch it, smell it or taste it. Not interested. (said with deepest apologies to Jerry Seinfeld)

Re:NYTs on people taking pictures of their food (MiamiDon)

Those folks who photograph everything they eat definitely have OCD.

It's lunchtime - where's my point-and-shoot?
