Being a drummer I always have drumsticks around me, not that many corkscrews. If I found myself without a corkscrew I would take one of my thinner drumsticks and push the cork SLOWLY down the neck. After a few times you can do this without any wine comeing up the neck and spilling. The only negative is you have the cork in the wine, but sometimes it will add to the flavor.

The shoe one is genius.
I also heard you can do the same thing by whacking the bottom of the bottle against a tree. The vibrations of the tree help the cork come out, and you don't have to worry about ruining your walls. Anyone know if there is a video of that?

I don't think this would work with the Bubbly stuff like Champagne! Unless you wanted to kill someone with a flying cork!

You don't need a corkscrew with champagne anyway.

This is true, however, I'd like to see it attempted just once to see what happens. Maybe we could get the Swashbuckler, Mr. Hofmann, to do a video of him making the attempt!

In fact, using a saber to slice off the neck of a bottle of Champagne is a fine way to pour something nice to drink with your sevruga.
