For Pennsylvania, they list the Philly Cheesesteak. To back up their claim, they use fat figures from CT-based Subway and NY-based Nathan's Famous fast food chains. No idea what the fat content is of a home-made cheesesteak sandwich or one purchased at a famous Philadelphia stand.

Several of these items I've had and didn't care for. Primarily, I'm thinking of Heart Attack Grill and the Quadruple Bypass Burger, which tasted as if they had soaked it in hot grease from the fry cooker. Seriously, that was one greasy, nasty, burger.

On the other hand, many of these I've enjoyed (Olneyville New York System Weiners, for example).

And these are pretty much fast food. Most of the seriously over-the-top unhealthy food I've had came from fancy restaurants (like the fois gras poutine at Pied du Cochon in Montreal...)

That is easily the dumbest list I've ever seen. In Wyoming it's lamb and they say it has 12 grams of fat per serving. 12 and that's bad? And then for Virgina it's ham which they note as have 7 or 8 grams of fat per serving. It's like they had a good one for about 3 states and thought lets do every state but then didn't feel like actually researching it.

If one ate that stuff all the time, then fine..otherwise, food is made to be enjoyed in it's different permutations. Interestingly, some of that stuff does not look so bad, some looks downright delicious and wholesome.

I remember asking this personal trainer what she ate, and she snorted,: i ate blueberries and oatmeal for every breakfast, turkey breast and cottage cheese for lunch and dinner with steamed veggies, and plain fruit. So, i asked, do you not eat anything else. She said, no, and you could never follow my diet.

I thought it was so sad that all she ate was blueberries, oatmeal, broiled chicken, cottage cheese, and steamed veggies, there is so much out there to be enjoyed.

Eating is such a pleasure in life, it is not just to nourish our bodies.

Sorry, I digressed here. Like anything, things can be brought to an extreme.

Alaskan Ice Cream??? WTF ?? NOT popular with the kids I see around here. Not once have I seen a Native person eating this stuff. So yes, the list is silly and irreverent.

Re: Wisconsin cheese curds ... Curds are not a byproduct of cheesemaking -- they are the actual product. Curds are pressed into the blocks most people recognize as cheese. Whey is the byproduct.

Missing details like this suggests to me that the folks who compile lists like this really don't know anything except how to rain on everyone else's parade. Humorless, sallow-faced soy snarfers like the thugs at CSPI ;)

I agree, Don. Some of the selections seem forced to find something for a given state. The Hardee's thickburger for Missouri? You can find that burger in other states.

I have to say that the Michigan BLT does look good...

I suppose this is an article that we should flee from, but several RF favorites made a list from Health.com, including the garbage plate from here in Western NY.
