To each his own. I never considered the Varsity Jr. to be particularly iconic. THE VARSITY, located on North Avenue near Georgia Tech, is very much alive. In opinion, however, now that one can order without speaking the language, much of the shine is gone.

Assuming the owner was not offered a fortune for the land by a chain drug store, it is a shame government will force these iconic eating establishments from the golden age of motoring to close down.

In Dallas, whenever a long time institution of whatever sort is torn down on some street corner, it's most usually replaced by a bank. It's like standing joke in town. Everyone will say,
"oh, just we need. Another bank"!

You'd think the city would rethink it, seeing The Varsity Jr has been there and paying taxes and providing employment for 45 years. It's also odd that they already have three driveways, but they have to cut down to one due to remodeling.

Damn! You'd think The Varsity would be protected under some "national preservation" action.

Sad news from the Big Peach - a zoning dispute about the number of driveways means that the Varsity Jr, which has stood for 45 years at the intersection of Cheshire Bridge and Lindbergh/Lavista, will be shuttering later this month, and relocating forty miles north in Dawsonville.
