I ran into the Chef again and we talked for a few minutes. He is Italian, 17 years out of NYC, working in Vegas. He was a Chef at a upscale Italian restaurant in Vegas until taking the Carnegie Deli position. I always figured you could find most things in a Deli like the Carnegie being,or leaning to Kosher foods. I asked the Chef how many items he had that were Kosher, his answer was Two, one being the salami. This surprised the heck out of me, was I wrong for thinking this ??????
Re:Trip to Las Vegas ( day one pic coming soon) (mr chips)

I remember eating at branches of the Coyote Cafe at the MGm and at Cantor's(from L.A.) in one of the other casinos. I just figure than transplanting a restaurant from another city is part of the veagas experience.
Re:Trip to Las Vegas ( day one pic coming soon) (wanderingjew)

 Al

There's alot of old geezers that transplanted themselves from NYC to Vegas (like South Florida- so the deli thing almost makes sense)

BillyB

I can't vouch for the Vegas Branch but I enjoyed the Pastrami and Corned Beef we had on my last visit several years back in NYC, I remember my girfriend at the time and I were conversing with a couple from Chicago who were sitting next to us
Re:Trip to Las Vegas ( day one pic coming soon) (BillyB)

wanderingjew

That's ironic because in NYC the Carnegie Deli is filled with out of town tourists.

WJ, This is the place to go for breakfast, The breakfast at every table looked wonderful. I was dieing for a good deli pastrami and couldn't wait a minute longer. I would say I was one of the non New Yorker in the restaurant. I talked with the Chef for a few minutes, we talked about the new York Deli being a thing of the past. There were a few that didn't last long in LV, he also said business was down..............Bill

Al, when Rattlesnake meat tastes like Pastarmi and the skin tastes like Jewish rye, I'll take a look at the critters....Bill
Re:Trip to Las Vegas ( day one pic coming soon) (mayor al)

Now Billy, Take the advice from an old geezer...
The main concept of the term "Vacation" is to explore cultural differences between your home area and the place you are visiting ! Chowing down on traditional NYC fare (even if it is delicious) doesn't contribute to the Western Desert environment that surrounds you ! Now dig out some Rattlesnake Chowder and Scorpion-Tacos and enjoy your visit to Vegas !
Have Fun !
Re:Trip to Las Vegas ( day one pic coming soon) (wanderingjew)

That's ironic because in NYC the Carnegie Deli is filled with out of town tourists.
Trip to Las Vegas ( day one pic coming soon) (BillyB)

Day one started with breakfast at the Carnegie Deli, the whole place was filled with New Yorkers. Every table ,I looked at other tables they all had great looking breakfast dishes, great looking Corned beef hash, omelets, fried potatoes and so on. My wife shared the $15.95 Pastarmi sandwich and it was a great way to start the day, I enjoyed every minute of the mouth watering sandwich, with a squirt of mustard on every bite. I asked the waitress for extra rye bread, we were able to make two good size deli sands out of the one sandwich. My Granddaughter had a chocolate chip muffin that was bigger than her head with a quart size glass of milk...........................(Pic coming soon)
We just got back from the pool, when your traveling with a 9 year old its never ending. We are staying at the Mirage Hotel, it should hit about 85 degree today...................BillyB...............P.S The Carnegie Deli in located in the lobby of the Hotel, I can see Cheesecake touching my lips in the near future.
