Nancy, I tasted those pancakes and they were just perfect! Emily will need to give a little backround on the artist, a description of the painting and her interpretation of the painting. In other words what feeling did she get when viewing it.
Bart, you're right about the Tom Sawyer. They do charge a little more but I find that the meals we have had there are consistantly good. I have quite a few diners closer by but this one is our favorite.
DirtDude, Emily gave me a little piece and ate the rest.

Agnes, what a great job, and I'm terrifically impressed at you driving into NYC yourself--you've done it more than me! Those pancakes look good enough to pick up off the computer screen. So Emily has to write a report about that painting and its history, or what exactly?

I used to be a regular at the Tom Sawyer restaurant. First of all, let me say that the quality of the food has not gone down, nor the quality of the staff. However, when it was rebuilt after a fire, the owners decided to make it a tad more "upscale", with more than a tad higher prices. It's still a good restaurant, but no longer a "value" one.

agnes, great report! Love all of the wonderful sight-seeing and food pics you took. Glad you and your daughter had a fun time. Keep up the great reporting, it gets addictive! It's almost 9pm and I want corned beef hash so badly! Don't worry about not driving in the city, nobody really LIKES to do it!

Thanks for the report. The most amazing thing (even better than the beautiful weather) is the fact that you found a parking space so close to the museum! (I got shut out once trying to do that there, about 5 years ago, after about 1/2 hour of driving around looking for a space, we went downtown instead.) Mostly these days we take public transit to get to NYC on weekends. It takes longer, not nearly as convenient, and actually costs more if there's more than one person, but it's less subject to headaches and stress.

My daughter was lamenting the fact that she wasn't a "kid" anymore. I told her that she was my kid and certainly could play if she wanted to.

OK, first of all, thanks to those who gave suggestions as to where to eat. This is my first trip report and the first time I ever drove into NYC myself. I've been many times to the city, especially as a kid but I never drove myself! I guess I must seem wimpy to some but I have conquered my fear and here is my short report.
My daughter Emily needed to go to an art museum for an art class. I felt that the Met was pretty easy for us to get to. We really lucked out and had wonderful weather. We stopped in nearby Paramus for breakfast at the Tom Sawyer Diner. I really like this place because they make their own corned beef hash.

My breakfast of corned beef hash and a poached egg.

My daughter's breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. Emily's not a big eater but can easily polish off a breakfast this big. Breakfast is her favorite meal!

Getting on the upper level of the GWB(lower was closed).

The sky was so blue!

The Museum (not as good as MiamiDon's Picture. We actuall got a parking space a short block from the museum.

Emily and the picture she chose to do a report on. We actually came upon it rather quickly.

One of my favorite exhibits.

My other favorite exhibit was the one about ancient Egypt. No Pictures, sorry.
We really enjoyed exploring many of the different rooms and styles of art exhibits. We opted to just walk around ourselves but they offer guided and self guided tours also.
When it came time for lunch we weren't too hungry after our large breakfast so we opted for the nearest Hot Dog Cart.

We wnt into the Ancient Playground right next to the museum too.

And then back over the bridge and home to New Jersey!

I really enjoyed doing this very short trip report and look forward to doing more! Thank heavens my kids, and in this case Emily, take all the taking of the food pictures in stride!
