Cabo Wabo, on the strip in Vegas. These were pretty damn good.

I've eaten at the original Cabo Wabo in San Lucas maybe two dozen times. I know everyone writes it off as some rockers (Sammy Haggar) place and low brow, but no. It's authentic and fresh fresh fresh. I've been doing shoestring and upscale Mexico for nearly 30 years now, and Cabo Wabo throws a lot of eye candy flash at you, but the food is very real. It's street vendor with safety.

I used to hate cilantro, it tasted like soap to me. But I came around, now I like it. That doesn't usually happen, I still marvel that it did.

How were the salsas? My latest favorite is Salsa Negra. Nice and smokey with a lot of flavor.

The meat was OK, maybe a little dry but I didn't notice really, the flavor was nice and pleasant, not overspiced. We didn't have a bad meal in Vegas, but this was the only one we had outside of a casino. There was some salsa with the chips but I didn't know which it was; I drippled it on the tacos because, well, that's the kind of guy I am. I put stuff on things.
