That raising the price shtick is not uncommon in the "luxury" realm of products. There's a famous case in California wines:
One of the big makers of Zinfandel made a very good batch and offered it for about $15/bottle - it went begging. So they sold the whole batch to an enrteprenuer for about $10/bottle. He relabeled it, released it in very small amounts, at about $80/bottle, and sold it out at that price. When it comes to taste, you can put any price you want on the item - the higher the better. After all, who wants to be caught drinking "cheap" wine...

I remember getting Yuengling 32oz draft cups iun State College for $1. I liked it.

When I'd return to State College, we'd get Yuengling.

About 10 years ago, they expanded out of Pennsylvania. Prices were cheap. No one seemed to buy it. So they raised their price to the premium rates and suddenly it was a smashing success. Go figure.

I like the lager on tap, but the black-and-tan is my favorite, the porter is a little sweet, the Chesterfield Ale is terrible (another green glass foul up), and the lights, well...if I'm having a light beer, I prefer Amstel.
