I have been to Famous Daves in Silverdale Wa, Everett Wa, Jacksonville FL and Fredricksburg Va. They are at best unremarkable. While Mr. Famous Dave may well have won every BBQ award under the sun, his francizees haven't. When it comes to BBQ I have to admit I am spoiled. I live equidistant from Lockhard Tx, Taylor Tx, Luling, Elgin Driftwood and Llano Tx. We have a chain here also called Rudy's and I'd rather take an ass-whippin' than eat there. So when it comes to BBQ...nuff said.
Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (ann peeples)

I was underwhelmed. I have had both the ribs and the rib tips, the tips being the better of the two.I tried two locations, and decided it wasnt a place I would frequent again. I did try, as I love rib tips and have to travel far to get good ones.
Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (X1)

I tend to like their BBQ Sausage best.

Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (MellowRoast)

Famous Dave's does a good business here, but I've found their food unremarkable, sometimes problematic, and fair at best. Go figure.
Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (leethebard)

Yes,they are decent...kids like their family feast..plenty for everybody...and my wife buys bottles of their "devil's Spit"sauce for home use;fun atmosphere...here in Jersey, not lots of barbecue choices, but Dave's is OK.
Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (mayor al)

We enjoyed a Rib Tip lunch Monday at a nearby FD's. It was close to the stops we were making on a Dr.-visit and shopping errand run. The Rib Tips are the best choice on the menu IMHO. Janet likes their Burgers.
No comparison to our 'real BBQ' locations (much further away), but close, decent, and inexpensive.
Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (ces1948)

Never had it but would try it out if in my area
Re:Famous Dave's Grand Opening (RibDog)

I remember when the first one opened here in Clearwater, FL. Went and tried it. They made a big fuss with bringing an empty plate to the table and explaining each one of the five sauces they had for customers to use. Then when they brought my combo pork and brisket plate, they had already put sauce on it. That made no sense to me and I could never understand it unless you were ashamed as to how the dry the meat might be. Well, needless to say, it did not last a year here.

Hope you have better luck with yours.

John
Famous Dave's Grand Opening (offlady)

Today Famous Dave's is opening up their first restaurant in Hawaii. I was one of the lucky few who got to eat there on their pre-opening practice run this past Saturday. We ordered the rib tips and fries appetizer, half slab pork ribs, chicken, and brisket. I found the ribs were very salty but okay after slathering on the various BBQ sauces. The brisket was sliced thin and tender, but the best we all agreed was the rib tips and fries. The potatoes were crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. It wasn't The Salt Lick or Fat Matt's, but it wasn't all that bad. Besides, there's nothing else in town.
