This is it. I am very much a traditionalist when it comes to holiday music, but this song makes me sing loud whenever I hear it. If you check it out on You Tube, feel love for the dated-ness of the video. This song gets turned up, and makes my heart happy: Mary's Boy Child by Boney M.
Re:Christmas Music/favs (Vince Macek)

' You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch' is a modern classic - I want to mash it up with Gershwin's "It Ain't Necessarily So.'
For novelty songs I like 'I Got a Cold For Christmas' by the Three Stooges in their tv-age revival. There's Mel Torme singing his 'Christmas Song' live in the wee hours at a Sunset Strip club, Eartha Kitt's 'Santa Baby' which IMO stands up fine to massive airplay, Louis Jordan being uncharacteristically mellow and sweet, and Louis himself giving us "Christmas in New Orleans", "'Zat You, Santa Claus?" and more...just buy this album, I'm serious!
Re:Christmas Music/favs (CajunKing)

I think this one is my all time favs

http://haydnspage.tripod.com/

It is recorded kind of low so you may have to turn your speakers up some.
Re:Christmas Music/favs (plb)

Anyone else ever see "Christmas with The Rat Pack – Live at The Sands?"
Re:Christmas Music/favs (love2bake)

ScreamingChicken

A couple of days ago I ordered Booker T & the MG's Christmas album so it should be arriving any day now.

That sounds like fun!!!
Re:Christmas Music/favs (love2bake)

My Christmas playlist: (It's all over the map)
Ding Dong! Starts with his ubiquitous 'Sleigh Ride' and his 'Christmas Festival' medley, then a series of traditional song suites arranged for brass choir, string orchestra, and woodwind ensemble.

On the other end of the spectrum, I always have to catch "Let's Have a Patrick Swayze Christmas" (based on the movie 'Road House') done by the cast of 'Mystery Science Theater 3000'. The late Mr. Swayze got a kick out of it, so, still funny.
Re:Christmas Music/favs (flyseye)

Happy Xmas (War is Over) John and Yoko
A Christmas Song - Jethro Tull
Re:Christmas Music/favs (cavandre)

The Roche Sisters have a version of "Frosty The Snowman" sung in three-part harmony & in a Brooklyn accent...it takes me back to NYC.
Re:Christmas Music/favs (ScreamingChicken)

As the evening and the holiday wind down I'll throw out 2 more:

"Pretty Paper", penned by Willie Nelson and sung by Roy Orbison. Earlier this week I heard for the first time a live version that apparently predates the studio version; in the intro Roy Orbison mentions that the song is going to be released soon and based on the crowd noise it sounds like it might've been recorded in a smaller, club-type venue. The accompaniment is mostly acoustic guitar and it's a great alternative version, and it's on my list of songs to add for next year.

And my current Most Favorite Christmas Song Of All Time (Secular Division):

Billy Squier's "Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You". If my wife is saying "turn it down" or "haven't you heard that song enough" at this time of year, odds are that this is what is drawing her ire. And as I type this the $30 Craigslist special here with me in the basement has a CD playing...

Brad
Re:Christmas Music/favs (zataar)

My favorite Christmas CD is a compilation called "Christmas Cocktail" with Peggy Lee, Martin Denny, Dean Martin, Kay Starr and others.
