One of the 6 batteries would take 4.5hrs to charge at 40Amps. I have a 40Amp charger and a much larger one will cost alot more. The setup weighs almost 400lbs. The batteries behave differently based on the weather, and have less capacity if too hot or cold.
Gas is not that expensive here in GA and the inverter generator can run 8 hours on a gallon. I want to work more than 8hrs a day on some days. The inverter generator just seems more reliable.

I rushed to buy the setup as it was the only option that would fit in my under truck compartment and I did not want to mount anything on the rear deck. However, now after experiencing how quiet and portable/lightweight the inverter generators are and seeing 1 unit power other small food trucks, this is the option I chose.

This is just one of the many items I purchased and regretted later but the items are for sale now if interested.
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (drvp)

Im interested as well- I have a bank of 4 6v interstate deep cycle HD bat run s/p which can be charged via shore power/gen/or off the vehicle alt when running. the batt's are 232 ah each- have a 5000 watt inv- and im running 2 refers at 7.5 a ea and a hood at 6 a continuous as well as other small misc - i also have quite a bit of 12 v stuff int/ext lighting /freezer /stereo and by my calcs ill have plenty of power

granted ill have to be watching things here and there and i do have the ability to switch on the built in genny- but i like the batt system i have-

I am interested in your findings - is it that you think you will need to replace the batts every year? as soon as i can post pics i have some interesting dwgs of my system
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (King3)

reese77

cue

I was really interested in the inverter system. May I ask why it wouldnt work?

Over time it would have cost me more money to maintain it, I would not handle extended operation (long days). Basically I'm doing my electrical design based on your experiences with this system. The fuel in my country is very expensive for a generator and this method can be much cheaper for me because I will use only about 1300-1600w. What problems do you have? How are you charging the batteries and how long it takes to charge? Why do you say it would cost more money to maintain it? I also want to use an inverter and batteries to work 6 hours at day and do not want to lose my money.

Regards.
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (reese77)

RodBangkok

I might suggest you also help protect it with a flex tubing something like this:
http://www.homedepot.com/...-tubing-12008-025.html
If not for the full run then use it where there are corners that could cause the gas hose to rub on corners and such.

I will put putting 1" thick black foam pipe insulation around it before fitting it between the floor beams.
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (RodBangkok)

Just a question for you all, why are you using black pipe if the flex hose is within code? It is so much easier to use than running hard pipe, I would have mentioned it somewhere earlier, but thought it was required to use black pipe for code.
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (daddywoofdawg)

Yes I would protect the tubing anywhere road trash may hit it and any rubbing on the frame.
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (RodBangkok)

I might suggest you also help protect it with a flex tubing something like this:
http://www.homedepot.com/...-tubing-12008-025.html
If not for the full run then use it where there are corners that could cause the gas hose to rub on corners and such.
Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (reese77)

chasendad

Thats what I used to vonnect my equipment from the black pipe..4'pieces..

I am going to run this under my truck through the floor beams then bend and come up through the floor using the termination fitting (below) at the floor. I was rooting for those batteries! How much are you asking for batteries and all? Do you think you could just get a small generator to trickle charge the batteries all day? The generators just seem to burn through a ton of gas. I guess I have to work through the numbers again , but it just seems like the payoff in savings from batteries would add up Really quickly. At least for us the numbers seemed to work a couple months ago last I ran them.

Re:1993 Chevrolet P30 Food Truck Build (reese77)

cue

I was really interested in the inverter system. May I ask why it wouldnt work?

Over time it would have cost me more money to maintain it, I would not handle extended operation (long days).
