Been to different areas of TX many times. One thing I noticed was the beef did not seem as good quality as the product we get in WI for some odd reason. Everywhere I have gone in TX so far for a steak has been disappointing in the sense that the flavor is just not there....maybe they trim off too much of the fat. I don't know, but it's not the same as in WI.

I guess younz(sp?) way out there in Stiller Country are just a little more technologically advanced than us Pa Dutchmen.

Hey BB, on your trip report to Cattlemans you said we don't have horses in parking lots in Pa. Well,here in Lancaster Co. its not unusual to see horses in parking lots or on the road but they're usually hooked to buggies.

Cousin Johnny and I visited Cattlemen's in June 2009. We liked the food, but enjoyed the atmosphere even more. You can see some of the photos in this trip report.

Thanks for your post. I am glad to hear that place is still thriving. It was one of the first Roadfood "discoveries" Jane and I made, over 30 years ago. And it had been around a while then!

I was in El Paso a couple of years ago. I traveled to this wonderful place in the middle of nowhere and it was worth it. Great tender steak. Roz and I both enjoyed the visit even the Childrens zoo.

I don't remember any zoo, but when I was 18-wheeling across the country in the 80's, I always found time to have a steak at Cattleman's. Lots of room to park any sized vehicle, and really good steaks.

First -- Welcome to Roadfood. Second -- My grandson, who is stationed at Fort Bliss, told me that whenever I do get out there we have to go to Cattlemen's Steakhouse.

Been retired and RVing for 11 years, traveled all over this country. The best we have been to is Cattlemens Steak House east of Elpaso. It's a bit out of the way, but worth the drive. They have their own ranch with the cattle grazing right there. Go when you can watch the sunsets, Amazing. There is also a small zoo next to the resturant.
