Don't know if this will help answer your question, but here in Cincinnati - where there are packed chili-spaghetti parlors in every neighborhood - the number of 3 ways (thats chili over spaghetti then topped with grated cheese, no beans) sold probably outnumebrs the 4 way bean (same as above, add beans) by 50-to-1 or more.

There are places in town, discounting your Wendy's and etc, that do serve good bean-laden chili, but they are by far a minority.
