This is too funny, I am originally from Middletown and now live in East Texas where Texas Roadhouse is all over. It is a chain and has really good food but the seasoning is heavy (at least it is here) so go light on the season.

Hello all

I started a New thread for Brians Backyard BBQ .
We will meet for lunch on either the 16th or 23rd both Wed.
Go to other thread for more info , I told Brian we would have up to 20 as we usually have between 15 to 20 at the other local meets

Hello all ,
Good friend of mine just opened Brians BBQ on rt 211 in Middletown towards Montgomery NY . The food is excellent, New Orleans style . Good guy owns it , good food coming out of the kitchen and all round good Roadfood vibes ( shameless plug for a friend )
Buuuuuuuuuuuttttt , I have advised him if he opens another location or franchises he is off of our list . Haahhahahahahaahaha
Anyone up for a visit there ?

Winter is not my favorite season. I much prefer Autumn. But, there is nothing more wonderous to me than the first snowfall of winter. It's one of the few things that I consider truly magical. Honestly, I could spend hours just enjoying and appreciating the beauty of the first snowfall. I love the crispness and freshness of the air. I love the way the snow covers the bare trees. Some of my absolute favorite photographs are of snow and ice on tree branches. I love the cleanness and the purity of the fresh, white snow. But, more than anything I love the feeling of complete stillness and quiet that comes with the first snow. My favorite thing is to walk in the early a.m. hours down a path in the new snow. To me, it's like the whole world becomes silent and serene. There is an inner peace that just fills me and a joy that resonates within. Later, I like to be out in the snow with others but I often most fully appreciate the first snow when I am alone. It's a spiritual experience of sorts. Just in writing this, I realized for the first time that if I close my eyes, I can evoke very vivid images of being out in the first snow and even that brings peace.

Personally, I'm with Dale (and he knows this) that get togethers with their roots here on this site should be at Roadfood places. And Roadfood is defined on the bottom of the homepage on this site. But, I wouldn't chastise anyone for wanting to meet at any old place.

I have to agree with Dale. You can eat one of the best regional dishes here (crabcakes) at a most reasonable price and the crabcakes are wonderful.

People, don't fight over this. It's about getting together. About 5 or 6 years ago, one of the great East coast meet-ups happened at the G&M Restaurant in Maryland where almost 50 of us, including the Great Mayor Al, broke bread and enjoyed wonderful crabcakes. I wouldn't classify G&M Restaurant as a Roadfood place by definition.

It truly was about meeting others.

Last time I met Benzee and family, it was at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre, PA. We had a great get together at Rustic Kitchen(Chain). Sure we could have gotten in our cars and left the reservation in search of roadfood, but it wasn't about the food, it was about a group of friends enjoying each others company.

At this point, I don't remember squat about the food. But, I can tell you it was a pleasure to meet up with such a great bunch of people.

So getting back to the topic of this thread. Hey Benzee, thank you for the invite. Once Lou gets back from his recon mission, and you set a date, I will let you know if I could make it. You never know when I'll be in the area.(Sidebar - I spent the whole summer of 2010 working about 1 mile from Benzee's house, installing windows in his Alma-Mater. I thought he lived about 40 miles away in Middletown, so I never contacted him)

Lee - If you can find Ramapo, it would be a pleasure meeting you.

Ann, After all my years on this site, I figure I owe The Mayor a meal. My choice to pay my dept would be McDonald's

Annie, Your comment is very appropriate. Many folks on this site get into cat-fights over terminology, or regional Roadfood 'nonsense', and the usual comment made to give guidance to them about how to deal with a topic they think is posted incorrectly ete, is to say "If you don't like Fur-balls in your Tuna Sandwich" (or whatever) Then why not skip over any references to that condiment and go on with life.

I am not big on Weinies or most Pizza. I eat them now and then, but I don't think I would ever go to PINK's in Los Angeles---UNLESS I was meeting some of the SoCal RF folks.
Texas Roadhouse ranks about 3/4 down my list of the chain places mentioned in most of the debate raging above...But I wouldn't put up a fuss if that was the place selected for a meeting !
The whole argument is a real waste of time...If John Doe doesn't want to meet with the others because he doesn't like the restaurant, I'd rather he stayed home than spoil the party by bitching about the lack of dryness of the BBQ or How many units there are in the expanding franchise of the particular business!

I am saddened by the posts on this thread. Benzee has organized zillions of eat and greets at great roadfood places. He wants to try out Texas Roadhouse and invites his roadfood friends. I, for one, find this absolutely appropriate. I would invite my friends to meet me at any restaurant just to see them again. I am lucky enough to see the Mayor and Janet (and the puppies) when they come thru Wisconsin to visit family. If time is a factor, I would meet them at a freaking McDonalds along the highway if thats what it took to see them again. Yes, we try to visit great roadfood restaurants when time allows, but if not, sharing a Big Mac would do.
