Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007 is an affordable GPS solution. The hardware is very small and accurate. But the software is not well designed for use while driving. It has too many options, buttons and stuff. The font size is too small. If you put the laptop in the passenger seat you can barely read. The full screen mode is nice but all navigation functions are disabled while you are in it. So that, you have to be changing between windowed and full screen modes to change the destination or search for a restaurant nearby.

In general, S&T 2007 is good. I recommend you to setup all your destination before starting your trip, not while driving, it is dangerous.

I'm getting the same problem -- "Bad map format", with S&T 2004 and 2007.

Has anyone been able to get the latest (8/06) template to work?

Stephen,

I was not aware that I had a map link feature in the program. I found the function that lets me remove all those web map files, and my "Saves" now work nicely.

Vince, a quick solution would be to remove the links to the offline files in the Streets & Trips application. This shouldn't take more than a minute to fix.

Stephen,

If you are going to repost the template, I will wait to use the new one. Everytime I do a save I have to "OK" out of about 20 error messages. Let us know when the update is posted.

Thanks for the notification. You shouldn't need those files, and I should clear them from the templated file from the system. For those who want a more thorough explanation - the "missing" files assist in generating the on-line maps for the Roadfood Insider.

I recently joined the Insiders and downloaded the Template. When I opened it the first time in Streets and Trips 2005, I got a message saying the format was downlevel and needed to be converted, which I did. I have now saved the template, and opened a New map using it. When I tried to save the new map file, I got a series of "Files Not Found" for map files like C:\Roadfood\Insider\StreetsTrips\StaticMaps\Pennsylvania.htm and about 20 others.

I don't have such a directory, nor do I have these maps. Where would they have come from?

Am I lucky or what ???......... I had no trouble downloading the templet....... and it works like a champ. .. Linda and I just drove 8,000 miles across this great country of ours and we used it every day ......we ate at over 25 of those little red flags in 30 days from California to Maine and back....... we also put on 10 pounds each.............. burp!

I just spent some time on the phone with George G. Barnes (a Roadfood Insider) and he was experiencing similiar problems as others. We troubleshooted it and found that if you open the template after you load Streets & Trips by clicking on "File ---> Open", then it will work. If not, let me know.

This template has nothing to do with the Roadfood Insider section of the web site. It will only work if you have Streets & Trips installed. (I know I have said this before - but I want to be very clear)

Michael and I both have Streets & Trips installed where we don't have to use the CD - The entire Streets database is on our laptops.

I download the file to my desktop so I can access it easily, and then double click on it to open it up. If I try to open the file that does NOT have Streets & Trips installed, then I get error messages similar to what people are experiencing.

The template that you download is simply a file that has push-pins of all the Roadfood restaurants. So if you want to plan a trip, then you double click on that template file and all the Roadfood restaurants become preloaded into the program. It is similar to how Microsoft Word has templates for memos, letters, etc.

Stephen, maybe we do not know how to do it. Do you have to have the CD in for it to work? I got the same message the other evening when I contacted you and I got it again.

How is the template suppose to work. Is it in conjunction with the software. Do you use insider by itself?

FWIW, the correct name of the file is RoadfoodTemplate.stt

I've tried duplicating the errors that some people are having and I can't do it. It works for me whether I save the file to a disc, or simply open it. hmmmm

Yes, you need to open the template (by double clicking on the file) whenever you want to plan a trip and that will open Streets & Trips so you can see all the roadfood.com restaurants.

This really has me stumped right now - Has everyone who is trying this already purchased and installed Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004 before trying to open the file?

Make sure once you download the template to your local machine the file has an extension of ".stt" at the end of it. It should be "RoadfoodTemplate.stt"

If the answer is yes to the above, then please let me know what kind of operating system and browser (along with version) you are running.

Thanks for your patience. This is the first time we have had the ability for users to download files - obviously some kinks need to be worked out.

What is the extension at the end of the file? .exe? .dat? etc...Sometimes file extensions need modified to install then remodified to original extension
