What a terrific issue! They have a featured section, "Ultimate Mexican Food Guide". It's 25 pages of Mexican foods including restaurants, bakeries, local products, where to shop, equilas, hardcore cuisine, horchatas, aguas frescas, raspados, paletas etc, etc, etc. The photography is fantastic!
Here's a link to the on-line magazine but it only shows a partial part of the section but enjoy what's here.
http://www.phoenixmag.com/

Re:Best of Phoenix - Budget Mexican Restaurant (i95)

Foodbme

Every year the local newspaper, "The AZ Republic" comes out with a "Best Of' list...

And as both recently touted here as well as listed by the Arizona Republic News'

critics' pick for "Best Place for an Inexpensive First Date" is the very good...

...Postino on Central (5144 North Central), FYI.

Best of Phoenix - Budget Mexican Restaurant (Foodbme)

Every year the local newspaper, "The AZ Republic" comes out with a "Best Of' list. This year the best Budget Mexican Restaurant was Los Reyes de la Torta -9230 N. 7th St. Phoenix. They don't have a web site but they do have great Tortas. Their food is based on foods sold in "The Federal District' of Mexico City as opposed to the Sonoran style foods commonly sold in the Valley. Their signature sandwich is the "Torta del Rey". It features breaded beef, pork, hot dog, ham, cheese, chorizo, fried egg, avocado and beans piled into crusty Mexican Bread.
Here's several links describing the place.
http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dining/articles/2007/09/11/20070911losreyes.html
http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/22/262808/restaurant/Sunnyslope-North-Mountain/Los-Reyes-de-la-Torta-Phoenix
http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/locations/los-reyes-de-la-torta-35381/
