I don't think the filling had lard; the lard was the shortening. (though there were other "pig" products in many of the foods besides the shortening, such as gelatins and such, so may the creme had that?)

Severall of Hostess products in the northeast began bearing Kosher symbols as well, as they are actually made in the Drake bakery, due to the merger. However, when Hostess changed over to the new redesigned labels not too long ago, the Kosher labels were dropped, and the beef fat reappeared. (and any animal fat is unkosher, not just pig). So they are probably still kosher; they just haven't produced the special regional packaging yet.

FYI.. Oreo (and many other nabisco products) converted to full Kosher recipes and certifications some time ago.

Great! I always new there was a reason for eating Oreo's and not, Hydrox.

Hydrox have a cocoa flavor.
Oreos have a chocolate flavor.
The Hydrox filling is less sweet and has a more subtle vanilla flavor. Also, the filling is not made from pig lard.

OK, I heard they were going to make a limited run. Did anyone else hear this? I've been keeping an eye on my cookie aisle, but nothing so far.

the other day, i saw some discussion on hydrox cookies but can not find it now.
