Pie Diva and I stopped at Al's on our lap of Lake Michigan. Pretty nondescript building outside and in.

The nice looking sign is the highlight of the decor. Four booths and maybe a dozen stools at the counter, we snagged two stools and ordered our meals.

The burgers were pretty good, they mash the meat on the griddle and then cook a pile of onions into the meat. I think it is how they do it in Oklahoma. It is a slow process, we were there close to 40 minutes for our meal. In those 40 minutes we enjoyed a few of Green Bay's finest citizens.

Pie Diva was next to an old guy who went to the restroom as soon as his food arrived, then took his teeth out to eat. I was next to a typical GB redneck, ya know. He was a decent guy and very friendly. He'd be fine with a Steelers fan, but would probably draw the line at low-life Vikings or lower-life Bears fan.

I thought the onion rings were first rate. We didn't order chili, but it might have been a good choice. It was Green Bay style with spaghetti cooked in it.

Overall, Al's was worth a stop, but not a drive. We get a far superior burger at Midway Eat, which is an hour closer to home.

Wow! That really looks like a great Roadfood type of place. Wish I had known about it during previous visits to Green Bay. The big question, are Steelers Fans allowed?

Got that link from a co-worker today...a trip up there might be a possibility if I could hit several places along the way, like Ardy & Ed's in Oshkosh.

Hop in the SC-Mobile and make that run to Titletown. Al's Burger Shop has reopened.

You can stop at Lambeau Field while you are there and pay your respects to the greatest franchise in the NFL. And maybe invest in some Green & Gold bling.

Looks like there's some good news! According to some bits 'n' pieces found on the Web (including Al's Facebook page) construction began in late October and is continuing, although I didn't read anything about a tentative reopening date. I'm sure that when that day comes the local media will thoroughly cover the event.

That is sad tidings, that place was a true "burger joint". I went there a few years back while in GB for a conference, we ended up the next getting to go orders so we didnt have to eat the rubber chicken at the conference.

I hope they rebuild, I know it won't be the same, but it was a great burger joint

A Green Bay, WI fixture since 1934, Al's Hamburger Shop suffered a fire over the weekend. I had actually been thinking about making the drive up there yesterday but wound up not having the time to do so.

Hopefully the family will rebuild and reopen.
