Back in the late 70's I was a big fan of the Ray's on 6th Avenue and 11th Street. Seems to me there was an article back then (Village Voice, I think) where they went to several Ray's Pizza's and rated that one the best. Very heavy on the cheese as I recall (I once carried three of thier whole pies back to my office several blocks away, they weighed a ton) .

I haven't been there in years, but it seeems to be doing very well on Yelp.

New York pizza customers got a lot of entertainment over the years with the feuds amongst the various Ray's Pizza joints. But the very first pizza joint named Ray's from 1959 is closing (owners hope to move if a new location can be found) due to a dispute among the building owners.
