I agree with MetroplexJim. When I moved to Plano from Rochester,NY in '74 there was only Shakey's here that sorta was good pizza. Now I have real Naples pizza in "il cane rosso". Better even than western NY Italian pizza ! And that's saying a lot !

Thanks so much for posting this, because foodandwine.com had contacted me what feels like a LONG time ago (much more than a year) through flickr, saying that they might use one of my photos from flickr for this article/slideshow, and how should they credit it, blah blah. So I told them, and quite honestly after a week or so forgot about it. At that time, I did not have my present camera and was actually taking pictures with my cell phone! So lo and behold, they did use my picture (it's #18, the Tacconelli's sign in Maple Shade, New Jersey). They gave me credit and everything. 6star, you made my day.

And by the way, the best pizza is actually tomato pie, and it's at Papa's, in the Chambersburg section of Trenton, NJ. I can't go back to "regular" pizza now.

I take those "best of" lists with a grain of salt, myself.

When we moved from McLean, VA to Dallas in 2005 the Metroplex was a "pizza desert". Now there a bunch of great places, including Il Cane Rosso which Twinwillow mentioned above. Even here in McKinney there have been three truly wonderful Neopolitain-style places open in the past two years.

I'd take this articlke more serious if it were titled, "An Anonymous Writer From Food & Wine Magazines' Favorite 25 Pizza's In America". I seriously doubt that he or she tasted every pizza in America so I'm filing this under "Just another dead tree or more mindless hyperbole". Journalism schools keeps failing us.

A lot of good pizza on that list!

I don't recognize some of the West Coast places, particularly the Pacific Northwest ones.

Nice to see Burt's Place on it.

actually--this is the first time i have seen a "BEST" list that actually looks good! every one of these places seems worthy of a visit. i KNOW that some of these places are great and the ones i havent had-i have either heard they were great or was impressed enough by the write up to want to tey them--this is very rare for me as i HATE "best" lists!
