We remain lighthearted. And that national cook off in Meridian this weekend was incredible. 200 teams from across Texas competed in this invitation only affair.

Come on guys. It seems you're taking this too seriously. It was just a fun title, with its associated local pride.

If we're going to get all technical, then why doesn't the WORLD Series have the Cuban, Japanese, or Dominican Republic teams involved? (By the way, the Cuban team did play the Oriioles in 2 exhibition games several years ago. They split, winning 1 game each. Surprisingly, each team won their away game in the other country they were visiting.).
Why is the Superbowl champ crowned "WORLD Champions"? What about the CFL teams?
NBA WORLD Champs? Really? The Europeans have leagues, too.

Texans still think they're an independent nation, The United State of Texas. So, I guess they think they can have a national champion even though the rest of the world recognizes the KC Royal as the only authentic Natiional Championship BBQ Cookoff in the United States of America.

The culmination of a years hard work came down to the $20,000 pay-off yesterday in Meridian Texas at the 2011 National Championship Barbecue Cookoff. We rolled up there with high hopes for a full day of championship calibre eating and camaraderie and our visit did not disappoint.
As the week goes by we'll be putting up some pictures and ephemera from the event but for now here's a list of the winners and a note to barbecue lovers: we go to a lot of these cook offs and while all are a good time there are certain ones that shine like stars in the Texas sky.
This is one of the premiere Texas food parties and is not to be missed. Put it on your calendar for next year. The food and hospitality are top flight. Congratulations y'all.
