(philM76)

The Doner Kebab sold in Germany is esecially a turkish dish modified to suit the european taste. So it's origin is Turkey, but the kind your friend is looking for is German.

They taste quite different so it is important to make this distinction!
Re:Doner Kebabs in Chicago? (kland01s)

A place we go to for kababs is Naf Naf Grill in Naperville, Illinois. I absolutely love the Kifta Kabab which is a spicy beef patty covered with a tahini sauce in a fresh baked pita. Yum!!! I don't relate them to Germany though, Naf Naf is Israeli in origin. The Kifta Kabab at Naf Naf looks similar to Buddy's link to lthforum and labeled Kabab in a Lahmacum wrap.

http://www.nafnafgrill.com/menu.html
Re:Doner Kebabs in Chicago? (Foodbme)

I usually think of Kababs as being on a skewer. The Doner Kabob looks more like a German Gyro!
Re:Doner Kebabs in Chicago? (ScreamingChicken)

Since I was unsure of the ethnicity of doner kebabs I did a google search, and lo and behold somebody asked a very similar question about 4 years ago:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080307093349AAhIMYM

Have either of you been to Husnu's in Madison? There are several kebab dishes listed on the menu but none are specifically called "doner kebab" so I don't know if they'd be of interest or not, but I thought it worth mentioning. Husnu's is the only Madison restaurant listed in the Yellow Pages as specifically Turkish.

Brad
Re:Doner Kebabs in Chicago?
