I've been a Guinness fan ever since the my first pint was pulled many years ago in an English pub in Devon. However, the best pint I ever had was in a small bar (not pub) in Dublin. It was served with very thin crispy (fresh) fried potato "crisps". There's a world of difference between a "pulled" fresh draught and a Guinness (or, any beer or lager) from a can or bottle.

After reading some of the above comments, I would like to try the Sprecher Black Bavarian, too. I've never had it.
Re:Guinness Black Lager (philM76)

I have had this one quite a few times and like it very much. Enjoyable.
My favorite black lager is Sprecher Black Bavarian ... the Guinness BL did not compare.
The Guinness Black Lager was decent, but for more than the price of their stout or extra stout, a bit hard to swallow.
Re:Guinness Black Lager (Phildelmar)

Found some and liked it. There are certain things they have done over the years that have proven a disappointment to me. The primary one was when they started allowing bars to do quick pours. If you can not taste the difference between a slow and quick pour, you just are not paying attention. I have never liked their canned beer and only do the bottle if there is nothing better. As such, I will probably pass on the Guinness Black . . . at least for now.

Re:Guinness Black Lager (jimcor)

Huh, first I've heard of it, but I really luv Guinness Extra Stout, I like that heavy duty taste and feel. When I find it on sale I'll try it.
