Thanks so much to Littleman and love2bake for the kind words! They are much appreciated.

In the middle of doing this report, I had some personal things going on that kept me away from Roadfood for a while. It has rankled me ever since that I didn't finish it. Even though it is way late now, I plan on completing this once the Iowa trip report is finally done.

The Travelin Man

Before making this trip to Rochester again, we're going to need something signed and notarized saying that you will be there.

We are always closed the month of August, and sometimes around Christmas depending on when it falls. Otherwise we are open Thursday and Friday lunch, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday breakfast barring any unforeseen emergency. We didn't attend three of our children's college graduations so we could be open on the weekend. There are definitely sacrifices in this business.

Yes, Fishers Station. I thought I was replying to the sign picture, but I probably forgot the quote the message part. My husband actually loved that picture of the sign...(he said the sign was from last year and Wednesday wouldn't erase so he wrote over it. ) You can't make this stuff up!

I am laughing out loud. My husband is such a hillbilly that he doesn't even erase Wednesday (we used to be open on Wednesday), but just writes over it! We are closed for the month of August because we can only stand each other (barely) 11 months of the year. I am sorry we weren't there. Please come again. Nancy

Needless to say, I am jealous of your (apparent) recent trip to Bobcat Bite. What were the circumstances in eating 1 1/2 burgers? Did you get the bacon on them?

buffetbuster - SWMBO was still full from breakfast so she couldn't eat more than half. No bacon on these - I'm a green chile freak so no condiments go on my GCCBs.

Cliff, regarding your reply to Nancy's compliment (which I wholeheartedly concur - I do aspire to be at your level, one day!) it just occurred to me that you are the John Wayne of pies in that the "Duke" had turned down the lead role in "Gunsmoke" (allegedly) saying he didn't want to get a reputation for only playing cowboys. Go figure!

I know I have left this report dangle in the wind for a while, but there has been some distractions lately that had my mind elsewhere. But, I am determined to finish this and that will be next week. Sorry for that!

Thanks so much for the kind words. But like I said before and people are always surprised to hear this, but I don't travel for work. Just taking advantage of the weekends.

Yeah, I think I overdid it with the signs. Kane's was wonderful and it is easy to see why they are much loved. And yes, there were several neon signs in there from Reading terminal Market.

That was bar none, the best compliment I have ever received on Roadfood. That really put a big smile on my face. So, thank you for that!

I did briefly consider doing the top 50 pies from 2012, but I was afraid of getting a reputation!

Okay, here's where I return the compliment. You have gotten to be a much more accomplished photographer over the years you've been posting here (or at least the years I've been reading your trip reports) and you are getting downright artistic. I know, that's a scary word. Let it sink in. These were just gorgeous, and like CTD claimed, I think I enjoyed the non-food pictures maybe even more. And one of the best sections is of people who let you take their pictures, because like the snaps that Roger Ebert posts at his blog at the Sun-Times, you can tell people's affection for interacting with you by the looks on their faces. Just lovely.

And bonus of bonuses, I finally got to see what a St. Paul sandwich looks like. Not like I'm gonna run right out and find one to eat it, but now I know! Genius report, Cliff. And however did you only hold yourself to twenty pieces of pie? ;)

BB .... You have lived more in 2011 than most people do in a lifetime. I am with the previous poster that whatever it is you do that allows you to travel as far and wide as you do I want to sign up today. I will sell both businesses and join you on the road. Of course, my wife & 3 kids may have a problem with that but it sounds like fun. Thanks for the incredible pictures and report it was a load of fun just living life vicariously through it for a while. Looking forward to next years report already

The power of The Travelin Man to close restaurants is truly a wonderous thing. On one trip this year, we purposely stayed just outside Rochester, NY, so we could have breakfast the next morning at Food at Fisher's Station. Yeah, I'm sure you know what happened next:

The power of The Travelin Man is so strong, it can affect air conditioning,

renovations

and how much food a Roadfood place makes.

But the most impressive display was when I was in Santa Fe and almost the entire city was shut down due to a power outage.
