Roadtrip Chicago to Toronto (via Michigan), and Toronto to Chicago (via Cleveland, OH) (abauer)

Hi
We are from the UK and are visiting the US for a roadtrip in June.
We will be travelling from Chicago, IL to Toronto, CAN via MICHIGAN. Then returning to Chicago via Niagara Falls, NY, OHIO, INDIANA.
We will be travelling via Highway/Interstate 80, 90, 94, 69.
Can anyone recommend any not to be missed places to eat? We are interested in drive-ins, diners, vintage places as well as places that serve excellent or unique food.
Also any roadside attractions that we should be visiting along the way?
