Doug....Lefty is still serving them up that way!!!! Was up that way for some training and stop by for lunch....didn't see Joe, but Lefty was manning the grill just like always.....it had been two maybe three years since I'd been by and he stilll had my Ham, Steak and Cheese on the flat top before I could open my mouth.

Skip the lettuce and tomato, add shredded cabbage, mayo, mustard, and sweet pickles and you have the quintessentiaL (SP) NOVA (Northern Va)....Cheeseburger Sub.

Sounds like the way Lefty has served them up for over 50 years at Mario's in Arlington. I've never had a cheeseburger sub there, but that's the standard way for the steak and cheese (which doesn't try to be a philly cheesesteak).

Only one place around here I know of that sells cheeseburger subs...I love the idea and love the subs. Yours looks quite good!

Correct, but because of the lettuce and tomato more than anything else because I don't like them on regular burgers, either. Otherwise the idea of a cheeseburger on a sub roll with the toppings I usually like (It. dressing/O&V, mustard, black olives, oregano, S&P, grated parmesan or romano) sounds kind of interesting and I'd certainly give it a try.

The sub comes any way you want it, LT not necessary but most people order LTM many add onions some raw some cooked, and some hot pepper relish.

Looks great (and I don't even eat beef) - Cheeseburger Subs are a staple of mid-atlantic sub shops, surprised to see the negative attitude from other places. I always look forward to your pictures chewingthefat - hope to get out the way one year and give your place a try!

They are available here too at pizzarias. While tasting good they remind me of an upgrade of the Big Mac.

that looks great! reminds me of a heel , a sandwich popular in the ohio valley where the cheeseburger (or meatballs or whatever) is stuffed into fresh bread that has been cut off at the end -yum!

Chewy, looks great to me, melted cheese running down the meat, good quality meat knowing you, crusty bread, the sandwich is heavy so it will hold the layers well, onions on top lettuce and tomato. How the heck can this be bad, I would eat one in a heartbeat............Nice job buddy......pnwc

I've never been able to get on board with the idea of burgers and burger meat being used for subs. To me it's strictly a sausage/cold cuts operation; I know it seems a little silly but that's just how it's stuck in my brain.

Around here they are very popular.
