I go a few blocks in the other direction to another place if I want bbq. I could go on about it, but I'll just say that the contest winning bbq or the stuff they show on Food Channel shows isn't anywhere near what they serve day to day there anymore. The quality has slipped greatly, and the rude waitress gag isn't "cute" anymore.

Mrs. Sippi and I ate there (Rochester) about 6 or 7 years ago and were very unimpressed.

DT

Just for the sake of clarity, SeamusD mentioned that he works a few blocks from "the original Dinosaur" location and then Davwud said that he ate "there..." If by "there," you also mean the original location, then the original location is not in Rochester. It is in Syracuse. If you meant that you ate "there" to mean any of the modern incarnations of Dinosaur, then I understand. I first ate at the Rochester one myself, and personally found the food and service to be much better than at the Syracuse location.
Re:dinosaur bbq (Hepcat)

I was absolutely delighted with the quality of the ribs and side dishes at the Dinosaur BBQ both times I journeyed to Rochester in 2005(?) and 2008.

Re:dinosaur bbq (MetroplexJim)

Twinwillow

Jim, if they did open in the Dallas area, I think locating in Arlington and/or Frisco would give them their best shot at big money success.

You're right.

I'm rooting for Frisco if for no reason other than the highly mediocre Rudy's needs some decent competition.

The retail/office explosion on the DNT corridor since we moved here in 2005 has been explosive: what recession?
Re:dinosaur bbq (Twinwillow)

Jim, if they did open in the Dallas area, I think locating in Arlington and/or Frisco would give them their best shot at big money success.
Re:dinosaur bbq (MetroplexJim)

kozel

Expansion plans are partly funded by a 70% stake by George Soros.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur_Bar-B-Que

OMG! Do their expansion plans include the infiltration of Dallas? If so, is Soros trying to give Glenn Beck a fatal dose of 'bad' cholesterol?

Joking aside, Dinosaur would do quite well in Dallas.
Re:dinosaur bbq (Stan)

 Newark is now open.
Re:dinosaur bbq (Cosmos)

Long time fan of the Dinosaur. I eat lunch at the Syracuse location at least once a week..Crispy chicken sandwich on Wednesday is to die for. As much as people claim the quality has dropped, in the last fifteen years, I haven't noticed it. Sure, you get a dry rib or pulled pork sandwich once in a while, but that's why god invented BBQ sauce...and everybody complains about the wait for dinner (nobody goes there...its too crowded)...tip: go for lunch and get there before noon...

I have dined in Rochester and the original Harlem spot and had good food and service at both (Abigail was great to us in Harlem). I will hit Troy and the new Harlem spot for sure...(probably not going to make it to Connecticut or New Jersey anytime soon). I do have a concern that they are spreading themselves thin to keep up the quality but I haven't seen it as an issue in the three joints I have been to. The original partners had a great vision and John has done well to stick to it and spread it around without cheapening it.

There is a competitive joint in the Syracuse area that is an offshoot. They are OK, but unlike the Dino, you find frozen appetizer crap from Sysco on their menu just like any other place in town. Dino has never been like any another place in town.
Re:dinosaur bbq (Davwud)

SeamusD

I work a few blocks from the original Dinosaur.
