Thanks for a really great report. I wish you could have also made it to Franklin's BBQ, Stiles Switch BBQ and, the world famous Louie Mueller BBQ. Maybe next time. Austin is very unique compared to anywhere else in the US. My son graduated UT Austin in '99 and never came home. He helps keep Austin weird.

Thanks for the food truck report, still planning our May trip to Austin, and figuring out what blend of new places we'll try along with revisits to previous favorites (Gourdough's, Chi-Lantro, and Bits and Druthers)

Have you been to Franklin BBQ in Austin. It's listed as one of the top 20 best restaurants in America in a recent article. I can think of several places in Austin that should have made that list.

Ditto Franklin's as my #1 as well. Been to Salt lick and would have to put it last on my list.

WOW! Thanks, again. As it has been on nearly every "foodie" show from Flay, to Richman, to Fieri, Mrs. Metro has the (original) Salt Lick high on her "list". Wish you could have made it by Franklin's BBQ which is #1 on my "list".

New to TX for only six years, Mrs. Metro and I - mostly for "food purposes" - have been "contemplating" a road trip to Austin/San Antonio for most of our residence here.

Loved your report. FYI, the Sterns did a food tour of Austin in 2008 and i wrote a fairly long trip report in 2009. thank you for reminding me of one of my favorite trips ever. I look forward to more of your very interesting report. thank you for sharing the blog here on road food.

We've stayed in Austin for a day or two as the starting point on past road trips (one from Austin to Las Vegas, and another from Austin to Myrtle beach, SC). This time around we're staying n Austin for 6 days to discover more about the city. We love Austin and may even look at real estate while we're here.
