I love all kinds of mushrooms.......white, crimini, portobello, oyster, morels, etc. but alas, I will probably eat very few of them since Mr. Hoffman is deathly allergic to mushrooms! Good luck on that mushroom growing, I hope you have a bumper crop.

Reading a post by Sundancer7 about his growing peppers prompted me to think about you & your Mega- Mushroom Farm!

What's going on with that???

Now it's watch and wait. The directions said mushrooms in 10 months.

I lifted the cardboard and checked, there is plenty of sweet smelling mycelium growing. I just have to hope that it's the edible kind.

Joe, You gave me an idea. I may take some ash out of my backyard fire pit and sprinkle it over the ground area where I found morel mushrooms in the past.

Joe, back in the 70's, I had a client in Orange County, even back then the guy made millions growing mushrooms. He would tell me with the right conditions, impossible not to do very well!

That's interesting. So, what was that stuff in the bottle from the lab? The sawdust is what feeds it but I thought it was more decayed wood. Would December to April time line meet that criteria? The ash because morels thrive after forest fires so it is assumed it is the ash. He was vague on the tree as well. My morels were growing near a grove of Cottonwoods that had been cut down.

Davydd, I don't know if it will in my climate, but I have never had a morel and willing to try anything.

Morels? I never heard of them being commercially grown. I thought morels were wild only. I find them in my woods. Two years ago I collected quite a few in just one small area. Morels in the spring and giant puffballs in the fall.

Mycelium growth kit for the area, Just a bit of Mycology back ATCHA... The best is to have the area in a shaded humid as possible area. Wet wood chips will pick up the mycelium growth and start the process.........hope it works for you Joe, good luck...........pnwc

Mushrooms!

I have a shaded area of my yard, so I am going to try starting a perennial mushroom bed. I ordered King Stropharia(Stropharia rugoso-annulata) spawn. The mushrooms look great and are supposedly easy to grow.

I have the bed all set up, sawdust on standby, just waiting for the spawn.

If this works out, my next project will be Morels. If anyone has tried this before, I need all the help I can get.
