I just saw Zappa Plays Zappa in Cleveland a few nights ago, the 3rd time I've seen this band. I've seen many concerts over the years and I was never a Frank Zappa fan but this band is the best band I have ever seen. The time changes and the intricacies of Frank's music are really difficult and this band is incredible in hows they perform. Everyone in the band is featured and highly recommend you look up the tour and see if they're coming near you.

Elton John, over a year ago. My wife is a bigger fan than I, but the guy puts on a heck of a show........a real pro. Lots of middle aged women there. I wouldn't have guessed that Mr John would be so popular for a gal's night out.

Most recent: Bruce Springsteen @ MSG a few months ago.

Most often seen act: Bruce by a mile. About 40 shows since 1984. For my money, the greatest live performer of all time.

A few years back, The Kids gave me a B-day present of 2 tickets to James Taylor and Carole King. This was doubly fun since I knew JT back as a teenager when he couldn't get 300 ppl in a local hall. But the star of the show was Carole King who I think was 68 at the time..........such energy! What a great time. Last year, 1/2 of The Kids (with his wife) took me to the Houston Rodeo and we got to hear Sugarland. Another blast! (made up for the month I was there helping them to re-hab a house they bought).

Carlton, I just read a murder mystery that was based around a country singer............."XO" by Jeffery Deaver. The interesting point made there was with the internet and places like Youtube, Torrent, etc, folks can now get all the music they want for free. So the only way for performers to really make any $$ these days is to do a LOT of touring/concerts and also selling on the paraphenalia that is hawked at those things. Or to get movie soundtrack gigs or commercials.

As an aside, Deaver is a great mystery writer, but once upon a time was a folks singer, so there's a lot of industry insight in the book

I actually went to a show I wasn't working! Not only that, I'm gonna do it again soon.

Last one was Springsteen in April at the Palace near Detroit. First time seeing him, which was weird. Next one will be Paul Thorn at Wheatland Music Festival in September. That'll be my 5th and 6th times seeing him (he's playing the main stage two nights).

There's a ton of excellent concerts right now. I'm going to see Zappa Plays Zappa for the 3rd time next week in Cleveland, OH. What's sad really is that because there are no sales to speak of they are forced to tour. I wonder where will it all shake out/

i wasn't allowed to go to concerts as a teenager...was going to finagle a way to go to see led zeppelin in '80. had it planned out to stay at a friends house the night of the concert. then, just before the tix went on sale, bonham died. i was not a happy camper!

senior year, crystal ship was touring and i was a huge fan of the doors and there was no way i'd get to see them, so, i was GOING to this! told my dad about it and said you better okay it cuz i'm gonna go anyway! he only agreed because the venue was known to be pretty strict about security.

so, first band i saw was crystal ship at the tower theater in 1982. never was big on concerts although i have seen pretty much everyone of real interest. in fact, the half of the pink floyd concert i attended in '87 or was it '88? was THE best out of all of them and i was only there for the last half of it!

the last concert i went to was the doors of the 21st century. whodda ever thunk they'd reunite and go on tour? certainly not me! so, that was another must-attend. funny thing, it was also at the tower theater! i don't remember if it was '02 or '03...

Hey guys ,
You remember Trixter by any chance . Good friend of mine is the drummer , interviewed him a few times on TV and Radio but the best stories were during commercials .
Some of the best shows I've seen were
Beach Boys 4th of July 83 on the beach in AC after James Watt said they couldnt play DC monument . One of dennis wilson last shows , then in 84 back at monument in DC with ringo starr on drums among others

Billy Joel at the old Brendan Byrne Arena in Meadowlands great acoustics .
Also same location Moody Blues , Styx ,

Recently Dave Mathews Band was a wild experience

Yeah, usually we'd just party and not remember the shows. What kind of stuff did you play? I play bass and guitar. My first band was like a heavier version of Molly Hatchett, the other one was like Testament, Pantera and some black metal. It was really fun, and we were able to open for some semi-popular bands, but don't have the time for it anymore.

My first was Sepultura, Pantera and Biohazard in 94. My algebra teacher took us. Last one was Slayer in June 2011.

My favorites were the first one of course, AC/DC in 96, Kiss in 97, Iron Maiden in 04, Ozzfest 97 and 98.

I used to play in bands, so we were at a ton of shows.

I used to play in bands too... I liked playing shows, I just never liked going to them as a spectator. I just can't stand being stuck in crowds, especially without a place to sit.
I actually saw Pantera twice, once in 1995 with Type O Negative (amazing) and Coal Chamber (meh), and then with Anthrax in 97.

First was Frijid Pink with Bob Seger at a fair in Livonia Michigan. The last was Willie, John Mellancamp, and Bob Dylan. Frijid Pinks version of House of the Rising Sun is still the best. Listening to Mississippi John Hurt I'll fly away right now.

Won tickets on the radio to the Daryl Starbird car show in 5th grade
and saw the Trashmen(Surfin 'Bird) in 1963.
First "rock concert" was Jimi Hendrix.
Latest was Gypsy Soul at a Christmas Eve show here in Ashland, where they
reside.

My 1st concert? I have no idea, it is just a purple haze... My last was about 5 years ago, Manilow at the Verizon Center in DC, PP's favorite performer. She worked his show twice as a runner while we were in Calif. She was thrilled.

Hello all ,
First one was the Beach Boys in 1981 at the Hartford Civic Center . Have seen them over 100 times in all its different incarnations . Stoked for the 50th Anniversary tour this summer as they all regroup .
Almost got tossed from Hartford as we were 5th row center and I kept surfing on my seat . The security guys gacve up by the encore .
Last one was Areosmith / Doobie Brothers last summer at Bethel Woods in NY , home of the original Woodstock Festival . Great vibes whenever we go there and gonna catch the Boys and Dave Mathews as well this summer there

Not sure the first but it was in the mid 1960's. Probably Peter Paul and Mary because I've seen them maybe 20 times and Mary solo in a very small venue about 3 times. But I also saw most of the great MoTown groups of that era too, Supremes, Tempations, Sly and the Family Stone, Smokey Robinson and many more. Last.... I can't remember! Haven't gone to one in maybe 15 years. I am disabled now and very hard for me to go to concerts or movies.

The first concert I went to was Ricky Nelson at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. The last one I attended was Elvis at the Spectrum in Phila.

First concert was Three Dog Night March 1972, followed by Humble Pie ( with Stave Marriott, vocals and Peter Frampton, guitar) in May 1972.
Last concert was October last year, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Highlights of last year were Ruthie Foster, David Bromberg, sarah Elizabeth Campbell, Kris Kristoffersen & Merle Haggard, Over The Rhine, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant, Del McCoury & Preservbation Hall Jazz band.

Holy Crap, I was at that one too! Had a friend that went to Iona and I went up for a weekend.

My first concerts were the Murray the K Holiday Shows at the Brooklyn Fox. You couldn't beat it, 10 or 12 acts: The Ronnettes, Ben E King, Jay & the Americans, Jan & Dean, The Crystals and on and on. Jackie Wilson almost always closed the show, all for only $2. This was in 1963/4. Great memories.

Most recent was the Girl Group Reunion Spectacular at Lincoln Center last summer. Terrific show, many many Girl groups from the 1960's, outdoors on a beautiful summer day, most of them sounded great. If you jump around You Tube there's lots of footage from the show, but here's a sample:

First concert was the Beatles at Hollywood bowl in 1960something.

Last was Cher at Staples Center.

I used to see Johnny Mathis, The Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary every year at The Greek. Well at least 4 or 5 times.

My favorite was Marty Robbins.

I'm terrible with dates and I even tried to research when these groups played here - Cream about 1970 at the Warehouse, which was just that, an old warehouse on the waterfront, nothing but a stage and carpet remnants. Last one was the mid-80's and is a toss up between the Eurhythmics at Tulane's McAllister auditorium or the Rolling Stones in the Superdome (Steel Wheels tour?)
