It also spawned a series of hilarious parodies. Search "so god made a ____________ ". Fill in the blank with lawyer, liberal, Rush Limbaugh, whatever. This is the best "series" since Hitler's rants.

True. But it still seems like a fairly assinine way to get your product name out there. "Let's confuse them so they have to spend even more time looking it up to see what the heck we were trying to sell them!" That tends to backfire, as people become more annoyed than anything else and thus will not buy their products.

Also, easily 90% of the farmers I know drive a Ford or Chevy. Most people I know who drive anything Ram (or Dodge, whatever), are those who spend way more time on pavement sitting at traffic lights than they do on dirt hauling anything other than themselves to work or their kids to school.

But my point was, few people remember what product it was. Which makes them VERY ineffective at their stated goal. I can only repeat...if more than half of your audience doesn't know what you were trying to see them, the ad can't be very effective. It doesn't matter if they were trying to sell trucks or cereal, if no one remembers what it was, they're not going to sell any.

Ah, but they are effective. We are discussing their merits. Why patriotic for Jeep? To make you forget future Jeep production expansion will be in Italy and China not the USA. Why farmers for Ram Trucks? To reinforce Ram as an Americana truck and make you forget Chrysler Group LLc is now mostly Fiat owned, an Italian company. Read a Tweet that said Ram was their preferred truck because of that ad. The ads were perception plants not intended to extol the virtue or capabilities of Jeep and Ram. If you got up to go to the bathroom you might have never seen those two minute ads because they most likely will not be played again on TV soon because they are too long. They're meant for discussion and Internet replay.

You know, you're right. I went back and looked, and every single person who said they knew what was being advertised said Dodge, not Ram. I was in the kitchen when it started, but grew up on Paul Harvey so the voice was definitely where it was for me.

I got jumped on for saying I didn't think it was a good commercial elsewhere, so let me explain a little better. The message about farmers was phenomenal, and I completely agree. My problem with the commercial is that it could have been for just about anything, so if they were hoping to make their product stick out in the minds of America they failed miserably. Which makes it not a good commercial as far as I'm concerned. I had the same issue with the Jeep ad using Oprah Winfrey talking about military troops. I get that discussion makes it powerful, but if more than half of your audience doesn't know what you were trying to sell them, the ad can't be very effective.

You didn't know it was Paul Harvey unless you paid attention at the very beginning and of course knew who Paul Harvey by his distinctive voice was otherwise. You didn't know it was Ram Trucks until the very end other than some very subtle hints in the photo narrative. But you're right. I was on another message board and everyone was saying it was Dodge. Dodge was never mentioned or shown. The Ram Truck was separated from Dodge three years ago as as totally separate division. The power of the ad was it is being discussed like right now everywhere.

The ads were sub-par. They try too hard in trying to be cute. The only one I thought broke through and really stood out was the Ram Truck Paul Harvey narration of "So God Made a Farmer". That one got my attention.

Tide. At first I was rolling my eyes, and then the end made me literally laugh right out loud. Followed by the Doritos commercial where they were playing princesses.

A bunch of my friends are going on and on and ON about the commercial with Paul Harvey talking about farmers. Probably only one in six can name what product was being advertised. I think it was some kind of truck. So while the whole Paul Harvey on farmers things was very cool, it was an abysmal failure at getting anyone to remember what the heck it was for in my book.

But yeah...not nearly as good as in past years.

Forget the game! Who won the Best Commercial Award?
I give it to the Bud Light "Goin' to See The Voodoo Doctor" series.
Over-all, i think the commercials were sub-par. Not anywhere near as good as previous Super Bowls.

As I will have to do something aside from grooming my toenails on "Super Sunday", I'm trying hard to give a sh*t about who wins aside from the fact that I predicted both the participants and Charm City to win in post 211 above.

While I expected Ray Lewis et al. to bit*h-slap Brady, Belichek, and the arrogant Pats, I did not expect Joe Flaccid to stand erect and "perform".

The fact that he did makes me believe a bit that his cockiness may extend for him, the most noted of all Mud-Hens, into his next game.

The Niners are, therefore, DOOMED!

And I am left awaiting the STEELERS 2013 draft.

My Prediction was post 190, and I still say the "Rays" will have their day, deer antler fluff and all.

Good idea. I would also shape the bread like a football, slit the top like football lace stitching and bake on a stone. It's coming together.
