The Triple XXX (doesn't that mean nine X's?) brand of root beer originated in Texas in the early 20th century. In 1985, they stopped bottling it, but it was still available on tap. In 2008, the Triple XXX restaurant in West Lafayette purchased the trademark, and they are the folks who have restarted bottling the root beer.

There were once many Triple XXX restaurants around the country. Now there are two, both independently owned. The other is in Washington state.
Re:XXX Root Beer (Michael Hoffman)

I've been hooked on Stewart's root beer since my first visit to Crabill's in Urbana, Ohio.
