Sad day! I'll never forget several years ago when Harold was still alive, his daughter saying, " Your lucky, Daddy's working and he doesn't weight the pork, he just grabs a handful and puts it on the plate." It was an incredible amount. Back when the legislature was in session when Harold was alive, you could see many important people there during lunch breaks.

I have to admit, the Brunswick Stew and Cracklin Corn Bread were nothing short of excellent, unfortunately the rancid pork just completely shrouded what could have been a positive dining experience

What a shame this happened. From reading the comments, it seemed like the quality had been going downhill for a while now. Like WJ, my one experience here was terrible. I wish I had been able to eat here during their heyday, because it was obviously someplace special.

Well, I can't speak for its decline in a historical sense, but I can certainly say that I have eaten Brunswick stew at something like eighty or ninety different barbecue restaurants, and Harold's was the runaway best of them all. The only stews in their league are at Speedi-Pig (Fayetteville) and The Turn-Around (Tallapoosa). I will certainly miss it!

I'm not surprised they went out of business. I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. The only roadfood restaurant where I'm surprised that their rancid pork didn't give me food poisoning. It left me physically nauseated.

That's a shame but it sounds like the quality had gone down a lot. I used to live in Atlanta and ate there a lot, plus I always tried to make it there when visiting. Harold's will definitely be missed.
