We stayed a night or two in the hotel even though it was closed. I remember communal bathrooms and chamber pots. I wish I could remember more. If I go back I'd like to get a tour of the SIU facility there.
Re:Southern Maryland: Waldorf to Piney Point (NYNM)

I was surprised at the variety. Frankly I was disappointed by the stuffed ham, a hyper-local speciality. But the oysters, rockfish, hush puppies with honey, and BBQ were delish. It was an interesting area, with Chesapeake bay and many tributaries all around, sailboats, old colonial architecture and history, too. A nice weekend trip. We stayed at St. George's Island, with direct water views on each side of the hotel.
Re:Southern Maryland: Waldorf to Piney Point (kland01s)

Sounds like plenty of good eats to pack in to one weekend! It's been too many years since I have visited the area, we mostly travel to New Mexico or Northern Minnesota but I think it's time for a east coast visit again!
Re:Southern Maryland: Waldorf to Piney Point (NYNM)

Oh, my favs were the BBQ and the oyster sandwich from Accokeek MD

and the rockfish from St. George's Island,

where I sit right now, the Potomac in front, a creek from Chesapeake Bay behind.
Re:Southern Maryland: Waldorf to Piney Point (NYNM)

Oh also Half Smokes (Waldorf area)
Biscuits and Sausage Gravy
Crab Dips
Fried Chicken

Nice combo of traditional southern food and Chesapeake Bay seafood.
Southern Maryland: Waldorf to Piney Point (NYNM)

This weekend we went to St. Mary's County MD via Annapolis and Waldorf.
Here's some regional foods we found and tried:
Old Bay Cocktail Sauce
Dixie BBQ
Crabcakes
Fried Oysters
Blackened Rockfish Sandwich
Crabs
Stuffed Ham Sandwich (super-regional specialty, hard to find)
Hush Puppies dripped with honey
Homemade Potato Chips with Bay Seasoning
Red Velvet Cake

Sort of Surf and Turf or……...
