Buddy and anyone else in the Chicago area,
I'll be on the south side tomorrow for the grand opening of the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Ccenter. If you're in the area stop by. I'm running a cart that will be serving area VIP's and the indoor concession stand. There will be two Salvation Army Canteen Trucks on the campus also serving food. Vienna Beef donated the hot dogs and Hot Dog University trained the staff. www.kroccenterchicago.org/

Well, one year ago, the kit included the neon relish, dogs, buns, mustard, etc........and who cares, darling.I spent my money the way I wanted to. Family is important.

Anyway, I love a Chicago style dog. I get one at every chance. My cousins from California thought they were awesome, and my cousins from N.C. loved them. I have sent them all kits from Vienna Beef company. Guess its a matter of taste....but I also like all sorts of hot dogs from different regions!!

So is it's first cousin, the lesser-known stuffed pizza

But there are other specifically Chicago styles where the crust is thin.

Said another way: there is more than one "Chicago style" and not all of them are thick crusted

The good news here is that this site is geared towards dispensing this sort of information, so folks who read a lot here will over time learn many things like this. I certainly have, and still am.

What other "Chicago style" pizza is a Chicago only invention?

So why doesn't someone make a Chicago Dog Pizza?????

I love Chicago dogs. I make them at home all of the time. I think the toppings go together really good, they contrast in flavor and texture.

Did some research...and perhaps I owe some of you an apology...at least Wikipedia lists several Chicago pies..

l seem to be variations of what Italians have been serving for generations. The article mentions the stuffed pie was based on the Italian Easter pie, which I grew up on in the 50's....Still that deep dish pie is a Pizza Uno invention and clearly a Chicago creation!

The deep dish,inverted pizza is what the world admits is Chicago style...All those other styles are available many places...Stuffed pizza, like Calzones and the like have been served in Italian pizzarias for as long as my 66 years and Italian heritage can remember...nothing unique about that. I'm sure Chicago Italians have been making all those styles for decades also......but unique, created there...don't think so!

All I know is, however brief my stay in Chicago, it never fails to include some of the dogs. I've had pale copies elsewhere but none measure up.

Sorry...I guess I only knew of the upside down pizza....as a lover of pizza...and since I've eaten it in many forms, in many parts of the world, I'm more than willing to give Chicago the benefit of the doubt...and try a sampling someday. Thanks guys, for setting me straight!!!

Chicago pizza is NOT deep dish or stuffed! I have lived here all of my life (65 yrs.) and the pizza I grew up on as a teen was cracker thin crust mostly found in bars or bowling alleys. The first mom and pop pizza joint in my town was about 1962, they were the first place that delivered and they made thin crust only. I didn't have a deep dish until I was in my 20's and that wast going downtown and having it at Uno's, nobody out in the 'burbs made them.

I grew up on the notrh side on Montrose avenue and I ate whatever pie I could afford at the time. The best dogs were sold at Wrigley field and a little stand on North Clark. Here in Texas there is a pizza wasteland of Domino'sPizzaHutPapaJohnsPapaMurpheys and little else. But to save the day, there is a place called Man Bites Dog that makes a passable Chicago dog. No joy on the Italian beef though.
