I'll second the hot brown at the Brown Hotel! I had my first experience there last month, and it was heavenly.

If you're looking for something a little more low-key, the Dizzy Whiz Drive-In in Louisville has pretty good thin-patty burgers, the atmosphere is nice, and the price is right.

My only Indianapolis dining experience was at the Mug 'n' Bun Drive-In, and I really enjoyed the breaded pork tenderloin there. The root beer wasn't bad, either. I did try to sample the Workingman's Friend while I was in town, but when I got there, it didn't appear to be open (no cars in the parking lot), and the neighborhood seemed a little... rough. There was a not-so-friendly-looking gentleman eyeing my car from across the street, so I didn't bother getting out to check before turning around and retracing my route to the highway.

Near East Lansing, in Okemos, there is an odd little establishment called the Traveler's Club International and Tuba Museum. You'd be hard pressed to find a more literally named restaurant. An eclectic menu with dishes from a around the world and more tubas than you've ever hoped to see in one place make up the charm of this university town diner. A lot of the dishes are vegetarian, but it's not a vegetarian restaurant; still plenty of meat choices and standard diner fare for the carnivorous customer. Traveler's Club is a tiny bit dingy, but it wears its dinginess more as a welcoming patina rather than plain old ordinary filth. You know...the way a Roadfood restaurant is supposed to look.

Get off I 65 at Exit 2 in Franklin, KY and go to Nashville Road in Franklin, KY to Jim's BBQ for outstanding KY country food. Get off I 65 at Exit 26 in Bowling Gren, KY and go W on Cemetery Road or Fairview Avenue to Chestnut. Take a left and go to Brickyard Cafe for fine Italian for lunch and dinner. Get off I 65 at Exit 65 in Munfordville, KY and go S on Main Street to Big Bubba Buck 's BBQ for good Kentucky BBQ. Get off I 65 at Exit 86 at Glendale, KY and go to The Whistle Stop or Tony York's for outstanding southern country food for lunch or dinner. Get off I 65 at Exit 94 in Elizabetown, KY and go W on Mulberry to Commerce Drive. Take a left and go to Texas Outlaw BBQ for good road food.

Take a left a go 3 blocks to Bootleg BBQ for outstanding southern food open at 11AM for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. For good home style food with a water front view get off I 65 at Exit 0 at Court and go W to the first street. Take a left and go S to Riverside Drive to Buck Head Mountain Grill for lunch or dinner.

In East Lansing, try El Azteco...legendary and should be open on Sunday. For a more gourmet experience, try Dusty's Cellar in Okemos, not that far from EL. We love them both.

Man, that is tough. I have lots of really good suggestions, but almost all of them are closed on a Sunday.

In Columbus, Indiana, try Zaharako's Ice Cream Parlor. The place is gorgeous!
