As it turns out, I spent very little time in Montgomery. Dinner at Jubilee Seafood and lunch at Martin's were both a success. No trip report, but I will post a few photos here when I get the chance.

Earlier today, I was honored to share some fabulous roadfood with Buffetbuster, AND get a sneak preview of his VERY ambitious weekend trip to Bamaland. You're gonna love it! Thrills, chills, and fried chicken hanging in the balance! Well, maybe no chills....it is pretty warm and muggy down here....but wait - perhaps he might have had some ice cream.....hmmm. Without giving anything away, I pose these tantalizing questions:
Did BB ever find breakfast in Montgomery? Who had the best turnip greens? What does one DO when a restaurant runs out of fried chicken AND pie before you get there??? And what is so good, you have to eat it twice?

Just came from a really good dinner of gumbo, West Indies Salad and Greek Style snapper from Jubilee Seafood. The place was so crowded, it was easier to eat at the bar. I asked the bartender for a breakfast suggestion. He immediately replied Egg and I. I told him that I was looking for something along the line of Bogue's in Birmingham or Waysider in Tuscaloosa. He told me they don't have anything like that in Montgomery. Very disappointing!

I just can't accept that a city the size of Montgomery in the middle of the South is a epicurian wasteland. How is that possible? Hopefully, I will be able to prove, at least in my own mind, that it isn't true.
Unfortunately, four or five places that look really interesting, like Hamburger King, are only open during weekdays, which eliminates them off my list for this trip.

Trust Me! I've spent some time in Montgomery on Business trips.

Yes, BB they do serve a sit down breakfast. Good old southern style! They also serve lunch, but do not know about dinner.

I remember you starting a thread about Hamburger King before, so I socked it away on my list of places that need visited next time in town. Unfortunately, this will be a weekend only trip. Too bad!

Doesn't look like there will be any stops in Birmingham, but maybe one is close enough that you will still join me. I will send you a pm.

BB - Hamburger King is the best! It is reason enough to get to Montgomery during the week and before 2pm! Otherwise, I have nothing for you.....but if you get closer to Bham, just let me know!

According to some other sites, the highest rated breakfast place in Montgomery is a chain place called Egg and I. That's not going to happen. There has to be some place that serves a good Southern breakfast.

Actually, Egg & I's aren't too bad!

They have Malted Waffles, Sweet PotatoPancakes, Cheese Grits, Bacon Cheese Grits, and Southern Eggs Benedict. Local Conecuh Sausage which is true southern sausage.

There's also Flip's Uptown Grill out on Vaughn Road and Taylor (271) between I85 and Troy Highway (231). Primarily a hamburger spot but great biscuits!!

I ate at a place in Montgomery called Shashy's on Mulberry St. that was pretty darned good.
