I have a major aversion to storing anything in the oven (except the pizza stone). At this point, my kitchen is at such a point that, in order to add anything new, I have to throw something out. And I STILL won't store anything in the oven.

We know a couple where the wife hides the booze in the dishwasher.

Wouldn't work here, I do the dishes!

(When Mrs. Metro started "rationing" bourbon I "got the message" and switched to ice cream - and haven't gained an ounce).

I guess for the same reason I never lose $300 Maui Jim sunglasses, Mrs. Metro had a mind-bogglingly expensive Viking double oven installed a few years back. Even with heavy use, never a problem.

I have never, ever stored anything in the oven but quite a few years ago my mother acquired the nasty habit of drying a damp dishtowel there. So of course I turned the oven on and scorched the towel very nicely. Since then, I always look.

I keep my broiler pan, on top of which sits my 9x13 Pyrex dish, which usually holds a loaf of bread. Sometimes leftover biscuits or English muffins.

It would no more occur to me to preheat an oven without looking inside it first than it would to stick a knife in the toaster before unplugging it.

I don't but I know a lot of folks do.
Phyllis Diller could never store anything in her oven. She claimed it was so dirty that she could only bake one cupcake at a time!!!

I have a double oven. It's a home to baking sheets, cooking racks and other things that don't have a proper place elsewhere...

Like muffin pans.

Recently I was visiting a friend and was going to heat a pork pie in the oven..turned on the oven to preheat and before you know it thick smoke was coming out.It seems she stored her tupperware in there .We escaped without peril and though I was surprised that anyone usued an oven for a stoarge closet , I guess the moral of the story to check an oven before you turn it on ! do you store things in your oven?
