So, Mr Chips the next time around, the pie is on me.
I drove up to the Cafe in my Eco friendly Prius, and parked right in front of the Cafe. This is the kind of place the Eco friendly makes you look I walked over to the counter and asked what kinds of pie do you have today.

They had a few berry, a few others and a few Cream pies. I took a Marionberry, Triple berry, and a Raspberry apple, to go. They packed them up real nice in ind containers, so they would travel well.
This is a list of the pies they offer

Apple
Apple Blueberry
Apple Marionberry
Apple Raspberry
Banana Cream
Butterscotch Cream
Cherry
Chocolate Cream
Chocolate Espresso
Cream
Chocolate Orange Cream
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream
Coconut Amaretto Cream
Coconut Cream
Espresso Cream
German Chocolate Cream
Key Lime Cream
Key Lime Meringue
Lemon Meringue
Lemon Raspberry Meringue
Marionberry
Peach
Peaches & Cream
Peach Blueberry
Peach Marionberry
Peach Raspberry
Pear Candied Ginger
Pear Raspberry
Pecan
Pumpkin
Pumpkin Orange Cream
Sour Cream Apple
Sour Cream Pumpkin
Strawberry Apricot
Strawberry Cream Cheese
Strawberry Rhubarb
Triple Berry
They also offer a few other items on the counter.

The Cafe is pretty cool, it offers free Wifi, Coffee drinks, kind of a yuppie hang out. This isn't the Art & Croissant crowd, its more of the Backpack, herb garden kind of laid back place. It has pictures of old Presidents on the walls, couches and living room chairs. They also have some tables along the picture wall.

I packed the pie in the cooler, and headed for home. I lost one of the pies to a leaking ice ziploc bag that dripped ino the Apple Raspberry slice that I really wanted to taste. I wanted to try the Strawberry Rhubarb pie, but, Joyce makes a real good one, and I would never see another one if I bought a slice from the Cafe. Ya Gotta do what ya Gotta do, I think I see a Strawberry/Blueberry Reubarb pie coming my way soon.
Ok so, I have two berry pies, they both look a like, so we only get one picture.

I cut both pies in half, I asked Mollie to Critique the pie and let me know what she thought. THis is her evaluation and taste test of the pie. This isn't bad for an 11 yr old, she ate the pie, came into my office and said, Papa, the filling was real tasty and yummy, the crust was GREAT, BUT, there wasn't enough crust to match the pie. she said she had to take the end crust and dip it into the filling. I was smiling during her presentation because, I felt the same way about the pie, the crust was good, but, to thin and not enough to match the amount of filling in the pie. All in all, the pies are good, I wish I didn't lose the Apple Raspberry Pie because I was left with two slices of very close tasting pie. I would stop here again, well, I know I'm going to stop here agin, I own My Chips a slice of pie.......

for all the kind words, and joining us on our trip to Portland and the Oregon Coast. I wish you all good health and happiness.

Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (pnwchef)

Time to pick out and head back, for the trip home. It;s going to be in the 90's in Portland and over 100 degrees at how. We got into the outskirts of Portland for some last minute school clothes shopping for Mollie, she is the best dressed kid in school, she has good taste.
We head over to for a quick lunch. Joyce has had a migraine for the last three days. Most people think I'm the cause of the migraine, I don't know what the Hell their talking about.
Otto's sausage is a fun place, they grill the sausage and hot dogs outside. I asked the cook what was the best, he said the Pork sausage and hot dogs are a good start. Fine by me, one of each please.

I told him to smile, it's only 88 degrees, wait two hours you'll be sweating your buns off when it's 96 degrees.

This the grill Hot dog

We washed it down with this

Pork Sausage/ same as a German Sausage

I bought some of the German sausage and some Italian sausage for home. This is the German sausage smoked

this is the Italian Sausage, good quality, I made Sausage and pepper grinders with these sausages.

Otto's Sausage is a must stop while in Portland, Great people. They offer a large selection of fresh sausage, a few smoked sausage, 8 to 10 premade salads. I would stop here in a heartbeat.
The post is making me hungry, I just made one of the German sausage for lunch, I can't type and eat, see ya in a bit.

Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (Foodbme)

The names of the rigs are as interesting as the food!
My two favorites--- Shut Up and Eat & Dump Truck!
In the pictures of Shut Up And Eat, there's a rig beside him that's called "The Knuckle Sandwich"! I looked at property in that area a few years back, I think I would go a bit more South, the tourist's are cramming into Cannon beach, there is only so much room.
I always check the prices of fish while I'm on the coast, , it drives me crazy that between Seattle ( Pikes Market ) the prices are nuts, Salmon $25 to $30 a lb, Halibut, and Cod sky high. The Salmon here is $19.95, I for got what the Cod and Halibut is, maybe Chefbuba can shed some light on how much the retail prices are now. I never pay more than $10 lb for any fish, I wait for the Copper River run, I feel the taste and Quality of that salmon is great. I wait a few weeks after the run starts, then buy it for $8 lb. Craig what is the price of Halibut, Cod or even Tuna in your area ??????????

Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (mar52)

Bill... exactly! Nice to hear that it's still nice. It was an empty lot when it was mine.... covered with berry plants that we were required to cut back every year.

Blackberry, if I remember correctly. Nasty stickers in them.

I thoroughly enjoyed your report, Bill. Well done!
Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (pnwchef)

chefbuba

The crab is very good right now. It's a beautiful day on the coast, sunshine and warm temps. Joyce and I get breakfast early, Mollie drags out of bed around 9AM. We get Mollie moving fast, get to the beach early, while doing a bit of window shopping on the way. Window shopping with Mollie is like, Papa look at this, Papa come here, Papa, Papa, can't you just once look. We haven't eaten for about an hour, so everyone is starving, no way would this family make it in a Third world country. We walk by
Joyce and Mollie yell "they have maple bars"

They are both sucking down maple bars and I'm looking. and looking, GGGEEEZZZZZZZZZ everything looks great. So I pick out a

How could anything with Cinnamon and sugar be bad, I would eat my sneaker if it had Cinnamon & sugar on it.
This bakery makes real good donuts, While I was paying I noticed they also have Danish pastries on the side counter. This is a nice clean bakery, the gal behind the counter was real nice, although she looked at me kind of strange when I took a picture of the donut, I get this look a lot.
After a walk on the beach, the girls still had a few things they wanted at the Outlet Mall, I still have a few dollars left on my Visa card. We always pick one day on the coast to buy some Sushi, Dungeness Crab legs and Sourdough bread to have for lunch. This is the Tuna Sushi from a Sushi Take out place at the mall. The Tuna is real fresh and the Shrimp Sushi is loved my Mollie and Joyce.

We went back to Bell Buoy, this time to the Fish market side. This is what most people buy. They would sit on the beach, crack the crab and suck out the tender pieces of succulent tender pieces of pure white goodness. Sounds a bit Romantic, doesn't it !!!

This is what Lazy asses like me do:

This is what $40 worth of Crab legs look like:

and a loaf of Sourdough bread.

The Crab legs with a squeeze of fresh lemon dipped in homemade cocktail sauce was to die for. The Sushi was good and fresh, while we dipped them into a wasabi shoyu dipping sauce.
We, are now headed over to Cannon beach, this is a small town about 10 miles from Seaside. I figured the girls would like the small upscale shops this town offers. This is a fun town, we use to stay here, but, Seaside offers more entertainment for Mollie. This is more of an older crowd, with most of the shopping catering to them. I did find a Taffy making store that Mollie and I watched through the window as they pulled the taffy through the machine.

His shirt says to "Keep calm and Candy on: so we did , we went and got some Tillamook ice cream. I like my fillings where they are.

Mollie yelled, Papa I'll be in here, Go figure .........

Cannon Beach is a real pretty town and beach, these are a few stock pictures, and some I took of the beach and town.

Had to stop for a slice.......

This day was filled with touring around the area, enjoying the views, just letting Mollie have some fun shopping and spending some time walking on the beach.
This is the last day at on the Coast, we are headed back Through Portland tomorrow morning. Mollie will be at the Arcade later on tonight trying to win a thousand tickets. This is a long post, I promise...

Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (pnwchef)

Joe, I can only wish to be as good as Tom someday, when his finger hits the button of a camera, it's magical.
Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (joerogo)

Hey Chef, I would love to follow in your footsteps. Great report and pictures(did you hire Chewy to take the pics for you?) No wineries? A lot of fantastic vino in that area.

Nice review of ChefBuba. Chef, you food looks awesome!
Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (pnwchef)

Pancho, Thanks for the kind words. This is the birth place of Sealy, so it is a special place. I'm still trying to figure out why my birth place wasn't all that special when we traveled to from NYC to Boston last month. Mollie likes to feed the seals and tour the aquarium for an hour or two.

Lewis and Clark, I think they were the first ones to have Fish and Chips here.

Hanging Baskets are all over town.

Mollie, just because:

Pictures of the beach:

We stopped at Bell Buoy fish market, there is a small Fish and Chip place, owned by them, right next door. We have been coming here for about 4 years, they have the best Battered Halibut in the area.

Joyce and Mollie shared the 5 pc Halibut and Chips & cole slaw. They enjoyed the Halibut, the outside was crispy and the fish was nice and tender:

I had the Captains plate, it was a pc of Halibut, Cod, Salmon, two large shrimp, two oysters, and a Razor Clam, with fries and Cole Slaw for $16.95. This was great, the seafood was fresh, crispy, and cooked to perfection.

Mollie, said the fish was great, Sealy has always been a seafood lover. When we first came to Blue Buoy, The girl who works here, was about to have her baby 4 yrs ago. Shes a Great gal, does a great job. This is a Family owned business, the owners, Jon and Terry and great people, no reason to look any place else for great Fish and Chips, They serve the freshest seafood in town. They also make their own Tartar sauce and Cocktail sauce. They also have the Razor Clam commercial rights for this part of the coast.

Back to the Hotel, it has been a cool day, Mollie is ready for a swim, Papa is ready for the hot tub, Life is good. I leave you with a sunset at Seaside, hoping your day was as good as ours.
We will be back tomorrow, for our last day on the Oregon Coast.

Re:Trip to Portland, Oregon & the Oregon Coast (chefbuba)

Like you said, the Amaroso rolls are top notch. We will be taking Mollie through Europe next year, She is a great little traveler.
I have noticed the fish has gone up a lot in the last few years, the prices in the fish markets are crazy. Most of the fish and Chip places are $14 to $16 for Halibut.
